Lenovo goofs on their website again – $9969 for a touchpad

Engadget points out the above supposed pricing mistake, just another drop in the bucket of Lenovo’s website gaffes. These configurator options were on the ThinkPad X301. To their credit, it is already fixed, but when will they fix the process that allows this stuff to get through?

Mistakes on Lenovo’s web site are becoming frequent and common place. T

Those of you who have read my other comments here, know what a dyed in the wool ThinkPad Advocate I am. It’s rare of me to complain unless there is something of significance that is truly worth noting. This is one of those topics.

Not only does Lenovo continuously post errors on the site, but when I’ve called in to alert them they seem very casual and nonchalant about it. Not long ago I was ready to order a new ThinkPad, but could not place the order online as I wanted to, because of one of these massive pricing mistakes. When I called in, not only did they fail to seem concerned, or show any sense of urgency to report it for correction, but they refused to sell me the computer at the proper price. I found that experience very discouraging. I also found it very revealing about just how much they care about customer service.

Hello? Apple? Do you have a ______ laptop in stock?

That is nuts. It’s 2009 and some companies still doesn’t understand the concept of “customer service”. For Lenovo, I had an awesome experience with their tech support. VERY professional and “caring”. Perhaps you landed a disgruntled employee who didn’t really care.

  3. T – sales & support are entirely different groups. I don’t imagine sales has much control over the web stuff, so Peon#123 working the phones doesn’t want to spend time with someone who isn’t buying…

  4. this type of error is not exclusive to lenovo..
    ibm had the same troubles..
i THINK it is merely a misplaced decimal..
relax archer, its just someone having a bad day..
if it were me ordering i would have made the order and watched the fun.. :)
no way will that ever ship..
there are several levels of checking between placing the order and shipping..
and when an embarassed sales department guy calls you you can shame him into a free upgrade..

Mistakes are bound to happen and this was a forgivable one. One of my biggest pet peeves is people that think they’re entitled for selfish reasons.

For clarification, I was not trying to buy a ThinkPad for _less than_ it’s regular price.

I simply called in to order it at the previously advertised price it was listed at, for the entire week before. In this case the mistake on the site had it overpriced by $2,850. The sales persons attitude, reminded me that common sense, courtesy and selling another ThinkPad was not something he was interested in. As for a request to speak with a supervisor, sorry too busy.

  7. Thats _nothing_

Today I was wasting a few minutes looking to see what it would cost to replace my thinkpad..

I ordered a T400 with WXGA+ screen, and this is what was charged to my credit card…

somewhat amazing – it took 5 minutes from the submit time to the bank calling our mobile fone to work out what was going on.

    ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
