Back when I studied at the University of Tokyo I donned a Kimono once, but I more often wore a Jimbei. It's short pants and a kimono-like top made out of light woven cotton. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimbei) Quite comfortable - and it's what all the guys wear to go see fireworks ;DI personally think men (both Japanese and White) look better in Jimbeis than Kimonos. (However the Jimbei on the wikipedia page is not the best sample, I will admit).

Yes, I have seen a white man willing to dress up in a Kimono – myself!
