Lenovo has been running an amazing discount on their entire X Series lineup since October 1st and it is ending tonight. If you had been waiting, this is your last chance to get your oder in for $200 off X200/X200s, $430 off X200 Tablet, and $690 off X301.

Read all the details on the deal, along with my analysis of each model’s savings, here!

Wow, they appear to have just chopped the regular price to $699, and the WXGA+ upgrade to $135. Also there’s a 5% discount for paying with an American Express card (coupon on logicbuy). I got rid of my amex card many years ago but for those of you who use them, it’s another $35 off. There is unfortunately still a 4 week wait for the WXGA+ screen.

I’m monitoring the situation since it would be financially unwise for me to buy another laptop right now (anyone want to hire a linux nerd who likes thinkpads?). But I guess I’d succumb to temptation if the deal became irresistable enough.

I notice that Dealextreme has a 6 cell X200 battery for $50 or so. I dunno what the quality is like, of course. So if I were to buy an X200s from Lenovo, I’d get it with the 9 cell and use it for when I wanted a long lasting charge. I’d use the Dealextreme battery when I didn’t care so much. Even if it only has half the advertised capacity that’s still a couple of hours of operation, which is plenty for most of the occasions when I use a laptop on battery power.

Dealextreme battery is probably just as good as Lenovo’s. Remember any Lenovo battery is only covered under warranty for a year.

Forgot to say, $699 refers to the base model X200S. I didn’t pay attention to X200 or X301.

And hmm, looks like to get those prices you have to go through the amex coupon link on logicbuy. I hope paying with an amex card is not required.

  3. I truly long for the days of old (ThinkPads). All good things must come to an end I suppose. My long run with these (formerly) great machines is over.
