UPDATE: This deal is dead now too. It was a good run while it lasted!
One of Lenovo’s flagship ThinkPads, the ultra-slim and fully featured X301, is now only $799 thanks to a whopping 50% off coupon from the Microsoft Store.
We originally posted this deal a couple weeks ago and there was a T400s that was included in this deal. It looks like Microsoft has sold enough ‘T400s’ for their taste and there are no longer any coupons for that beast, but you can still snag a killer deal on the flagship X301.
Only 0.85 inches thin and 3.35 lbs with the included 6-cell battery, the ThinkPad X301 has every feature you could need, including an ultraslim 7mm DVD burner. The CPU isn’t the fastest, nor is the 120GB 5400rpm hard drive, but dropping your own SSD is just a few hundred bucks away on this previously $1600+ machine.
If you’ve been waiting on this deal, wait no more. Microsoft is likely blowing through inventory quickly at this price and the deal won’t last very long!

Just tried and it said that the maximum allowable number of discounted machines has been reached. In other words, it is not valid any more. Not sure if the 40% is still though.
I get the same for the 40% discount. And please don’t cancel your existing orders, since you’ll lose out on both in that case. Speaking from experience :-/
That’s a heck of a price but unless the DVD player is important, I’m still having a hard time understanding what makes the X301 more attractive than the X200s. Please Microsoft, close out some more models, like the X200s. (Though, I guess the 201/210 is coming soon).
Lenovo has the G550 at $429 today, with 3GB ram and 250gb HD. My credit card is twitching even though I have no use for another big laptop, it’s THAT good a deal. If anyone here wants a basic full sized laptop, grab one of those now. I’ll keep trying to resist. I want my next big machine to have a quad core cpu, 4 ram sockets, USB3, SATA 6gps, and Intel or ATI (not Nvidia) graphics. Wish me luck.
Just checked it out, they’ve stopped taking orders for both the T400s and the X301 at the discounted price. My wife wanted to get the X301 for herself.
None, completely agree with you on the X200s Vs X301 statement. I’ve personally been scouting about for a good deal on the X200s for a while now. and all the best on your “next big” machine
John, I’m hopin’ you find a killer deal for us X200s lovers soon

Well, the other thing with the X301 is that it has a touchpad. Most people don’t like TrackPoints, it’s the sad truth. Plus it is super thin and light. While the X200s is plenty svelte for me, it doesn’t have the same impact as the X301.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree and while the X301 is a super piece of engineering, it is not for me. Then again, my choices are aiming more towards the 14-inch form factor these days. My XGA-res X61 just isn’t cutting it compared to a T400s.
