Right in line with shipping the tasty new W701 and W701ds models, Lenovo is heavily discounting the remaining last-generation ThinkPad W700 workstations.
25% off is a huge discount, but seems a bit less impressive when the W7xx models usually run well over $2000. This well loaded W700 starts at only $1999 before coupon, making the base price a mere $1499!
You can see the nice set of base specs listed below, which includes the must-have WUXGA LCD, the very sweet color calibrator and even the WACOM digitizer built into the palm rest. You can also opt for things like faster dual and quad core processors, larger hard drives, additional hard drives with available RAID configuration and the usual wireless choices.
This deal ends April 14th, or when 500 units have been sold. Details on how to get the deal are below

- Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz; Win7 Pro 64; 17-inch WUXGA LCD

Completely off-topic, but interesting, anyway:
Have you seen that the T410 page looks very different lately?
Lenovo’s site is like the big cities, they’re constantly rebuilding it, so that you never feel at home… but since it’s crappy as it is any change is welcome. And this one seems to do good.
But I thought the W700 had sold somewhat lower than $1499 before, and the W700DS appears gone completely. I don’t see much point in buying a laptop as large as the W700/701 without getting the extra screen of the DS. I think the W700DS was somewhat under $2000 towards the end. If I were in the market for a primary workstation I’d consider a W700DS at that price but spending 2x that much (as required for a W701DS) is not in the picture.
