Lenovo ThinkPad Edge vs Dell Vostro in LCD stress test [Video]

by ThinkPads on April 23, 2010

Lenovo’s SMB-focused ThinkPad Edge may not have the magnesium roll cages or exotic materials of the flagship T Series, but Lenovo is showing off the work they did to make sure it stands out from other SMB laptops.

They recorded some footage of the new ThinkPad Edge undergoing an LCD stress test with a Dell Vostro (Dell’s comparable SMB model) getting the same treatment.

The results speak for themselves, and it reaffirms my own impressions of the Edge being a solid machine, even if it’s not quite T Series material.

Ouch! Nice job Lenovo. Maybe the Edge is a real ThinkPad despite all the naysaying.

Aside: does anyone know when the outlet store is coming back online, if ever?

Hey guys, maybe people can bug off about the T410 now, especially the T410s fandom?

Well, the Edge’s screen is *really* flexible. I mean a lot more flexible than I’d like it to be. But, after seeing this video, I think Lenovo had a good reason to make the screen that flexible…

“The results speak for themselves, and it reaffirms my own impressions of the Edge being a solid machine, even if it’s not quite T Series material.”

The video mentioned that they have 19 “ThinkPad” stress tests. If the ThinkPad Edge managed to pass all 19 of these “ThinkPad” stress tests, well, then the Edge must (no matter what your forum admins say) be a ThinkPad!

Valid point, but I imagine the “traditional” thinkpads pass them with a much greater tolerance margin.

Still good to know the Edge can survive that. I wonder how much pressure was placed on the screen in that test.

Yes, while all ThinkPads are subjected to the torture tests, the pass standards for the tests are set differently; I’m sure if your in the market for an SMB machine (a mistake imho), then the Edge is more robust than a Vostro but it won’t hold a candle to the torture a proper ThinkPad can withstand

But the Edge is not the Thinkpad Classic, nor did Lenovo make it to be such a machine, it is made to a cost, therefore there will always be features than more expensive machine. This test is just used to illustrate that Lenovo’s Edge is stronger than Competitor’s similar class machines.

What you are saying, is like comparing a Benz C350 to a BMW M3, and say that the M3 will slaughter C350 on the race track.

There is some spelling mistakes in the video, they spelt repetitive as repetative.

Horrible grammar and spelling.

Repetitive is spelled repetative.

First sentence: “Since it’s launch”. It should be “its”, not “it’s”. No apostrophe. “It’s” is the contraction of “it is”. “Its” is a possessive pronoun. Could you say “Since it is launch”? No… so that means it can’t be “it’s”. Instead you use “its” without apostrophe, which means “since the launch of the thinkpad” = “since its launch”. Possessive pronoun.

It’s unacceptable for companies to publish stuff like this.
