If you own a 2010 ThinkPad, be sure to update your BIOS

This latest PSA comes straight from Lenovo’s Connections blog. ThinkPad models introduced this year have an important BIOS and firmware update waiting that fixes a possible incorrect battery charge level.

This battery firmware update utility fixes an issue where some batteries indicate an incorrect full charge capacity value. Because of this error, the amount of energy available for use is artificially low, decreasing the amount of time the system can be used on battery. The fix is entirely contained in the battery firmware update; there is no need to replace any hardware for this problem.

So if you own one of the ThinkPad systems listed below, hit the source link to get the scoop on how you can get your requisite updates. IdeaPads are unaffected by this issue.

  • X100e
  • L410/L412, L510/L512
  • SL410/SL510
  • T410/T410i
  • T510/T510i
  • W510
  • Edge 13, 14, 15

2010 models Thinkpad X201, X201s do not need the battery update.

According to the Lenovo Connections website X200t and X201t (tablet models) had a previous battery update.

And if you own an older ThinkPad (T400 in my case), do not update your BIOS, the 3.19 version causes color problems on discrete ATI graphics.
