Thinkpad Z60 using Function Key causes shutdown

As the title says, whenever I press Fn + F1-10 causes the machine to immediately receive a shutdown command and shut off. Any thoughts here? ::EDIT:: This thread can probably be locked. I determined that pressing Fn + F1-10 was sending a power button signal to Windows and the machine was just shutti...

Re: R40 New Hard Drive issues

I did not need to format as the hard drive in question is my backup hard drive from a USB enclosure. It was already formatted with NTFS and I just chose to leave the partitions alone (even though the drive already has data on it that I put there as backup). The copying files part of the install went...

Re: R40 New Hard Drive issues

The hard drive is being recognized. Otherwise, the first half of the XP install wouldn't have worked.

R40 New Hard Drive issues

I've searched for a while now and can't come up with an answer to my question so here goes nothing: I picked up an old R40 from my uncle for use as a backup machine. Well my brother started using it as his daily and crashed the old 40GB hard drive. So, lucky for him, I use a 2.5in IDE drive in a USB...

Z60m hinge issue

This is a picture of my left hinge: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2906/dscn0687smallgb9.jpg I've used every kind of glue I can think of except welding glue. Can anybody give me any ideas of how to fix it other than replacing the hinge. I don't really have a problem replacing the hinge, but have...

Well, I'm in contact with a Customer Service Rep at Lenovo and I'll be sending my machine to Raleigh within the next few days. Hopefully this time it'll come back fixed 100% correctly.

I'm still trying to work on what they should do for me for being so inconvenienced.

I did replace the keyboard - no fly - that's why I sent it in the second time. I think it needed a planar card (replaced on the third time).

Lenovo's failing me!

I always talk up how durable the IBM Thinkpad is but Lenovo's failing me! I just got my laptop back from ezserv for the third time and they broke something again! The first time it was because the CPU Fan died and the wireless switch was broken and they fixed that. The second time it was because the...

Their warranty service is good - when they fix your computer. I'll be sending mine back Monday or Tuesday to have them try to fix a keyboard problem I've been having. I just got it back today and the problem still exists (after I sent it back Wednesday).

Verizon DSL here. It's extremely reliable for being out in the boon docks. It's also cheaper than cable at $30 a month.

I reseated the connector to the keyboard and reinstalled the drivers - still no change.

I didn't drop it or anything of that nature. It worked when I got it back from the depot, but now it doesn't.

Grinding fan

My system fan has started to really grind when it fires up. If I bang the laptop down (bad I know), it goes away. I really don't want to send it in for warranty work because my Thinkpad is my main system at this point (my desktop is fried). Is there anything I can do about it short of sending it in ...

The dumped WinFS to get Vista out now. That's the biggest mistake they made. Had they kept WinFS, Vista could have been more polished and given developers more time to catch up with the process. Vista came out too early for a market just now getting used to XP.

Well, this is a desktop and all.

That's an interesting conclusion. That cable is brand new, but inspection could be warranted.

Sounds like a failing drive. You better get you important info backed up right now. The only problem is that it only shuts off when trying to load into windows. Hard Drive has gone to RAW

One of the partitions on my desktop's harddrive went to RAW after a power outage. I do believe the boot sectors are messed up. I have yet to find something FREE that can fix this. Any ideas?
