Sorted it out. Finally.

The Fn and CTRL keys were reversed in the BIOS. Just changed that BIOS setting and all is well.

T440p: Windows 7 Fresh Load -- Function Hotkeys Don't Work

I did a fresh load of Win 7 64-bit Ultimate on a new T440p. Everything is fine, except the function hotkeys don't work. On the driver matrix for the T440p, there is no dedicated program for Hotkeys. Using Google, I found http://support.lenovo.com/en_TH/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS029026 but it st...

I was tempted by the Retina MBP as well, but keep in mind you can buy 2-1/2 T530s for the price of one MBP.

The MBP isn't that good.

Re: To Backlight, on Not to Backlight

i would say absolutely get the backlit keyboard. You only have to turn it on when you need it so it does not draw power all the time. Why do you want it? Ever fly on a night flight? Invaluable. Ever sit on the coach watching TV in a semi-lit room? Very handy. My T530 has the backly keyboard and the ...

T530 Realtec HD Audio Manager Audio Problem

Internal microphones and speakers work fine. When I plug-in an external wired headset, the headset works fine, but the microphone does not (I am using an iPhone 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for the headset). I may be losing it, but I thought the headset worked fine last week when I first configured the co...

Re: is it possible to Boot from the Multi Card-Reader? (T410)

Interesting idea on the bootloader. To work, you would have to first load the drivers for the SD card drive before the bios will recognize it as a legitimate drive and then boot from that drive.

Will Grub allow you to do that?

I'm having a tough time sorting out the number of digital [/i]external monitors supported by the T530. How many are supported by the Intel integrated graphics? Re: W520 Owners: Total Travel Weight?

I'm not worried about the weight of the W530 as it is essentially the same as the T530.

What gives me pause is the size and weight of the AC adapters. 135 watt is big, but the 170 is huge for portable carry.

I'm likely going with a T530 to get a 90 watt power adapter.

Re: X230 vs T430?

To me, I wouldn't want to surrender that 1.5" of screen size. With the higher resolution of the T430, you are effectively surrendering more than that.

If you want an optical drive, you are pretty much stuck with the T430.

Re: My thoughts on Lenovo's changes to the Thinkpad products

Used Thinkpads since the T600. My last Thinkpad was a T42p. Used it until about two years ago or so. Still love the 14" 4x3 screen. Wish 4x3 was still available but, practically speaking, it isn't. iPads are not laptops and the screen is only 10". I'd bash Lenovo harder on the screen issue if 4x3 sc...

What, are you 12 and doing a project for a social studies class?

Lenovo doesn't care about your on-line petition.

Bring Lenovo an order for 15,000 ThinkPads with a 7-row keyboard and they'll listen.

Re: When is best time to buy T520: and can I buy with "FreeDos"?

In my experience, I have not seen firesale prices of ThinkPads after new models are released. Lenovo seems to just sell out what they have and the prices remain rather static. If anything, the price of the T520s will go up . Businesses want uniformity and will pay the difference to keep it. Your bes...

Re: T520 - Buy it now or wait for T530

A T530 is unlikely to be more than ~10% faster than a T520. What the T530 will give you is longer battery life and better graphics performance. In addition, you'll get a USB 3.0 port or two. What is unclear is what type of keyboard the T530 will have. It might be a chiclet keyboard or it may be the ...

Should mean formal announcement of models is near. Note there is a T430s listed so the T420u does not appear to be the replacement for the T420s.

You can expect Lenovo to release the next generation of laptops when Ivy Bridge processors and chip sets are avail...

The other reasons I am looking to install the Samsung drives from my Adamo is that I have been pleased with the performance from a subjective user perspective (I haven't run speed tests on them so I don't know objectively how fast they are) and the 256GB size has been fine for me. Re: Installing a 1.8" 3.3-volt SSD in a T520 w/ 42W7888 42W8019

Thanks EOMtp. I read the Wikipedia article. If I read it and your post correctly, no step-down in power circuitry is necessary since SATA itself provides a 3.3-volt lead. The adapter takes the 3.3-volt lead from the SATA feed and maps it to the correct pins for the 1.8" drive. In short, the adapter ...
