Good post, Dom. I have a feeling that I posted this years ago ... not that it matters. A good story never grows old. Happy new year.

My namesake, Lemmy, has died. God bless him. A real rebel, a new star in the universe. Someone said, "If you sup with the devil you will need a big spoon."
The devil will need a big spoon.

Re: windows 10 privacy status

I chose to install Win 10 because I have to be the 'help desk' for my wife and my 86 year old mother in law. I need to understand it enough to be able to help them when they eventually install it. I was asked as part of the installation if I wanted to be tracked. I clicked on 'No' and that's that. N...

800 years of Magna Carta

Nobody else has mentioned this anniversary of the start of legal history in the western world. When King John sealed the charter in 1215 it led to other charters and to the formation of a whole new system. Although most of Magna Carta has been overridden or abolished in the UK, most civilised countr...

As ChugokuOtaku has had no reply I'd be interested in anyone's comments as I have just ordered a top of the range X1 Carbon 3rd Generation to replace my wife's 1st Generation model ... which has been a huge success. Her old machine's warranty expires in October so time to move on!

Maybe the Danish Post Office sent it surface mail rather than air mail? It could be at sea for 6 or 7 weeks and then face customs.

I'm not sure if I should revive a thread this old, but the subject is still valid, and it would probably be a waste to start a new thread. Incredibly great music from really good musicians. 8) Amen. I got to work on their "Brothers In Arms" tour and will attest that they were nice people to deal with in person as well. To reopen an old thread, this evening I put on an old album by Dire Straits and listened to 'Telegraph Road', 'Tunnel of Love', 'Romeo & Juliet' and it sent me back to the 1980s faster than a time machine.

Re: Rapidly running out of disk space.

I think I have solved matters for the time being. All R&R stuff has been copied to my NAS drive. I then made sure I had an R&R recovery disk on CD. After uninstalling R&R and deleting anything on the C drive, I reinstalled R&R. Suddenly I have 262 GB of free space on my C drive. If I didn't have to ...

Re: Is Lenovo completely retarded?!

I do strongly agree with the first post, to add to it: 1. They have not used any of the available 28 watt broadwell processors with higher base clocks (the ones MAC uses), and instead, only using 15 watt processors. 2. Given that they only use 15w CPUs, you would have hoped they use proper cooling ...

Re: Rapidly running out of disk space.

Thanks for the advice, RBS, but Win 7 64bit doesn't allow any of the stuff you suggested. My real concern is Lenovo R&R which is still taking acres of HD space despite being on a separate partition. I really fail to understand this and am thinking of ditching R&R in favour of an alternative. Any sug...

Re: Rapidly running out of disk space.

Thanks Ray,

The largest file now is in Windows and is called CSC, nearly 100GB. After that comes Winsxs at 10GB which in the context of things is tiny.
A search on CSC warns about trying to mess with it as it can cause a complete failure.
I'm finding this all rather mind boggling.

I went to the pub this evening ... well, it is Friday night ... and the local Windows guru said to try "treesize" free version. I did, and it showed that Rescue & Recovery was the culprit. Having deleted all but the base recovery file form R&R gave me 191GB of free space. I don't remember R&R doing ...

Rapidly running out of disk space.

On my T540p running Win 7 64 I have 444GB of hard disk space. A few days ago I only had about 70GB of free space. So I shifted a lot of files to a network HDD, deleted loads of old stuff, and managed to have over 80GB free. Today I have 26.8GB free. Hardly anything has been added by me since I had o...

I have a T540p and the wireless card has never needed to be replaced. When I bought mine it came with a 3 year warranty so if it had gone wonky then I'd have asked for a free replacement.
How long was your warranty?

Re: Anyone still use a CRT monitor?

CRT screens use so much energy compared with LCD/LED screens, especially when in stand-by mode. For example, most LCD screens consume 0.3 Watts per hour when in stand-by. LEDs use less power whether in full use or stand-by. For the environment's sake please stop using CRTs, and recycle your old CRT ...

"a fag packet" :) What is that? The word "fag" for "cigarette" comes from an old English verb which means to droop. A cigarette droops from the corner of the mouth so it became known as a fag from the late 1880s. It is a well-known slang term in Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. To ask ...

Having only read about this earlier today I did a search through Windows Registry for 'Superfish'. There were 4 entries, which I deleted.

I then searched my entire PC for 'superfish' and nothing was found.

Maybe it is hidden in the chips ... super fish and chips?
