X1C: Open SIM Card WW or Lenovo Mobile Access SIM?

I am about to order an X1 Carbon from Lenovo's UK online shop, but am unsure about the two options for Selectable SIM. I've searched online and couldn't find anything enhlightening. So, what's the difference between Open SIM Card WW and Lenovo Mobile Access SIM? Any explanation or recommendation app...

Size difference between 3-cell and 6-cell battery on X121e?

I am thinking of ordering a ThinkPad X121e, but haven't been able to find out the physical size difference (if any) between the 3-cell 31Whr and 6-cell 62Whr battery. I wonder if anyone knows? I read that a 6-cell battery used to stick out on the older X100/X120 machines but doesn't on the X121e, so...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

Well, my decision about replacing my trusty old R50e with a shiny new T400s (or maybe the upcoming T410s) was taken out of my hands this week: a bank I do some consulting work for gave me a shiny new X200. It's probably not as nice as the upcoming T410s, but I can't really justify having three Think...

Re: S10-2 to ever get the 720p screen option?

Lenovo Germany announced in spring that the S10-2 would eventually have several options, including 1280x720 screen, 32GB SSD, etc. So, it's not just a rumour. However, my guess is that Lenovo will wait until those options can be released as part of a premium netbook package with Windows 7, 2GB RAM, ...

Re: Dealing with SSD's inevitable crashes?

Right, but none of these sound like they'd cause a sudden death without warning? Do SSDs report SMART information on their health like magnetics do? If you know it's coming, you can prepare better. Note that over a third of hard drive failures occur without any warning, ie no SMART error signals at...

Re: Considering a T400... Opinions Please

Regarding T400 keyboard flex... This was raised by users a few months ago because the lighter keyboard backplate in the T400 (produced with many holes drilled in it to create a perforated pattern) resulted in some minor additional flex. Lenovo initially rejected user concerns last year with "The his...

LondonConsultant, are you thinking of getting one? Yes, but only after the prices have settled down in UK. For example, Oyyy is now selling a high-end T400s for £2000, but is still selling a low-end T400s for £1935 (so only £65 difference for upgrades including 2.4GHz to 2.53GHz and 250GB HDD to 12...

T400s pricing in UK...

I just checked online prices for the T400s in UK and they seem more excessive than usual when compared to US. For example, the same T400s (2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, integrated camera, 5300 WiFi) is $1720 in US (eg from Lenovo's site) but £1935 in UK (eg from http://www.oyyy.co.uk with several in s...

Having had Toshiba, Compaq and Dell laptops in the past, I couldn't possibly go back to using something other than a ThinkPad. So, I would login to eBay and buy a Smith-Corona portable typewriter and a HP programmable pocket calculator.

Re: New 12.1" IdeaPad S12 Netbook Opinion Thread...

The S12 looks pretty good for a cheap netbook, although I'd prefer: - a matte screen (instead of glossy) - an SSD (instead of HDD) - a pound lighter. The term "netbook" made sense for 7", 9" and 10" machines, but seems stretched when applied to 12.1" machines. So, if I were in the market for a netbo...

New config options for X301 at Lenovo UK's online shop

I just browsed the X301 configs at Lenovo UK's online shop and noticed some nice new options: 1.6GHz CPU, multitouch trackpad, and 250GB HDD. I guess that also means there won't be an "X302" for quite a while...

Re: X301 Intel SSD Vista or XP Pro question

On a related note, remember that Windows 7 supposedly improves support for SSDs: Its "trim" feature improves SSD performance by: reducing the amount of data to be deleted (which improves SSD's lifespan), deleting garbage data in advance (which speeds up writing of data), and maximising the amount of...

Re: Frustration with specifying a T400 to buy in UK...

Well, the availability of T400 machines in the UK seems to have reduced dramatically this year for some reason. Most online retailers seem out of stock and those that have stock are even more limited than usual in the number of pre-configured models. On Lenovo's site, for example, there are only 3 p...

Well, I'd order a ThinkPad netbook if Lenovo ever releases one. My dream netbook would have the same form-factor as the IdeaPad S10, but with all the usual ThinkPad styling including TrackPoint. The biggest sticking point for me is the apparent rarity of the LED backlit screen in the UK. The spec sheets are very dodgy in saying which it actually is. When I was looking at getting a T400 when they had just come out, a little while ago, it was near impossible to tell. I found that most online...
