Re: R51 Blank Screen--Cant Boot Up

Have you tried pushing down on the lower keyboard and/or touchpad area while booting? I've seen similar symptoms on T4x and R5x machines that have a loose GPU. If this lets the machine boot, you'll have identified the problem.

I've been away from these forums for a bit (life and work been keeping me busy), but I had to share this Ebay auction. This Thinkpad/Printer seems quite rare might be interesting for you all. Too bad it's sold as non-working!

I've never seen the message "Starting PC DOS" on any of my machines. Is this a cloned drive of some sort? A Google search references quite a few links to Norton Ghost.

Re: TP760EL question RE: software reinstall

Back in the day when I ran a 560 as my main machine, I used a PCMCIA based CD-Rom. It has a driver disc (3.5" floppy). If I recall correctly, this is the procedure I used: 1. Format drive /s using Windows 95/98/ME boot floppy. 2. Install driver for CD drive. 3. Run Windows disc from CD drive. Perhap...

Instead of repairing, have you tried a new installation of Windows? Or do you have a specific reason for trying to repair?

Unbelievable! Not too long ago, these were $50 on Lenovo outlet. For $20 shipped, it's a bargain for sure.

If you're looking for the external battery charger attachment (charges battery without laptop) let me know. Mine's for sale (genuine Lenovo).

FS: NIB Low-Density (16 Chip) 256MB PC100 SODIMM - $10

This is EDGE brand 256MB, low density memory in clamshell packaging. Tested and works fine in my Thinkpad 600X. This memory should work for many older machines (600 series, 770 series, 570 series, T20-T22, A20-A22, and many others). $10 for each module-- shipping within USA included. Max out the mem...

FS: Netbooks (900A, S10-3) - SOLD

I've gone through a slew of netbooks and have decided to get rid of all of them. Unfortunately, none of them met my needs. I've used the EeePC machines extensively as they were my favorite of the bunch. Still, they are too small to type on and were missing the Thinklight. I'm not the best typist and...

FS: New in Box - 31P9832 - 512MB PC2700 SODIMM (2) - REDUCED

These are in their original IBM packaging with the seal intact. Off the top of my head, these will work with T30, T40-T42, R40, R50-R1, A31, and X31-X32 machines.

Picture here: http://tinypic.com/r/16au0sp/7

Two available. $12 each or $20 for both including shipping within USA.

Re: WTB: A T-series ThinkPad (T61, T400, T500...etc) or similar

If the machine is going to be stationary most of the time, it would be cheaper to go with an R series machine. These are cheap and quite durable. I've bought a couple of Celeron based R60 machines. Upgrading to a dual core is a simple process. Here's a complete 14" Celeron model for $110 shipped: ht...

Re: The best $200 ThinkPad - that you build yourself!

IMHO, 14" T60's and R60's are two of the most reliable and rugged machines in ThinkPad history (and they were one of the last with nice and tall 4:3 ratio LCDs). I'll second that opinion! These 14" machines are incredibly sturdy and are probably the "best buy" for anyone on a tight budget. Old enou...

I've already got enough projects to keep me busy for the next year... without these new machines! The displays for your two machines should be interchangeable. Make sure you take a look at the HMM, but it'll be easy to swap the entire assemblies.

If the LCD is lighting up, the problem isn't with the inverter.

You might want to post the 7 digit machine type for your machines. That will tell us with original configuration from the factory.

Re: 770x films problem (colour)

For software on older machines I've used either VLC or the K-lite codec pack with Media Player Classic. I think your 770X might be a bit slow for flash video on Youtube. You might consider upgrading the CPU to at least a 500mhz P3. Its relatively simple and cheap-- I owned a 770X at one time and it ...

A31 used solder with lead, which melts at a MUCH lower temperature and stays liquid longer. Thanks for that information. I knew that the T series started using non-leaded solder around the time of the T4x series. It seems obvious now, but I did not know that the solder had different temperature and...
