Re: New, clean hard drive plus factory system disks = 80GB on my hard drive?
Yeah 80GB "usable" were used. Or only 140GB left out of the original 248GB. Sounds like good news and good advice. I just wanted to make sure that there isn't something on my hard drive that isn't supposed to be there. I had just sanitized it using Sandisk software. Thanks. Between today and yesterd...

New, clean hard drive plus factory system disks = 80GB on my hard drive?
Using a new, clean hard drive I installed the factory system disks on a W530 quad with 32GB RAM, and then rebooted a couple times = 80GB on my SSD hard drive? That seem excessive? Is that including my RAM or something? (I make donations on this site, help LOL.)

Re: t440p won't recognize Ultrabay SSD at bootup, but recognizes it during use.
Maybe a boot order problem. Have you tired that?
Changing it from ultrabay dvd to ultrabay hdd might still need to be changed in bios if you want to boot from it. Secondly the drive's content might not be bootable but still be recogizable.

1. Try unplugging everything including battery and CMOS battery. Related.. it might not be shutting all the way off.
2 A screwed up registry can sometimes supercede BIOS , for instance the NoDriveAutorun registry entry does.

Re: bios problem. wont allow boot from cd or usb
Thanks for all of your help, it sort of worked but it also turned out that my installation CD was problematic but you got me to the point where I was able to boot from a USB which in turn allowed me to wipe out my hard drive which was my original goal. Problem is is that if you use an application to...

Re: T520 How do I completely erase hard drive (SSD)
Thanks for all of your advice. I recall back when I had my T43, I found a utility from Hitachi that let me wipe the drive. Then I installed from the IBM System disks thus eliminating the extra partitions. Based on advice from this board, I purchased a new Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD for my w530 i7 3920X...

Re: T520 How do I completely erase hard drive (SSD)
I had problems with the system disks. On a T43P for instance I reinstalled them twice, and ended up with three restore partitions. The orignal and two new ones. This drive is only 160 gb. So my goal is to wipe it completely clean, and then use the system disks. ( I like some of the Lenovo bloatware)...

The 240GB seems to use considerably less power than the 500GB and 1000GB.

Power usage (read | write) 2.7W | 2.6W 2.7W | 3.5W 2.9W | 3.6W

but please do remember that xx20 and xx30 series have an SATA-II port connected to mSATA slot, so whatever you get it will be limited to 3 Gbps speed. Or Lenovo might of made the 170 watt keyed to prevent people from doing what this guy was saying and or using outdated 90 watt adapters, but money probably had more to do with it.

I want to put in a mSATA drive in w530
I just purchased a W530 3920XM, 16GB, 250GB SSD. It is slow as dirt, slower than my T520 in some categories because the non-factory SSD in it is the worst CNET ever reviewed. I want to put in a mSATA drive. I don't do much with my computers, mostly internet and occasionally DVD's. A couple questions...
