For one year I was running Virtual PC 5.1 on TP30 with 512 MB RAM.
Guests:
- Windows 98SE - 128 MB RAM
- Windows 2000 - 384 MB RAM
- SUSE 9.0 - 256 MB RAM
On Win 98 I run Chessmater (big chess program), on Win 2000 MS Office 97 and a program for layers (2 GB). SUSE was not used.
Some functions worked nice. ADSL, mail, switching between host and guest, fullscreen, etc.
Little problems were with shared folders. Sometimes it was difficult to save files there and copy or move them from there.
But more important were problems with big programs.
The only place where the created files from Office could be saved was Desktop. Without any tree structure. OK.
Very often these programs stopped. Nothing helped. All the guest was frozen. Guest can be individualy restarted and sometimes restart was solution. But sometimes host (Warp) was frozen too.
I think the cause of my problems was lack of memory. 512 MB RAM was too little.
I would recomend to upgrade to maximum of memory. I do not know the programs you want to use but more memory can help, not do harm.
Thanks for the info. I have a T23 with 768MB RAM. Guess I'll give it a try. It'll be a while but when I get the time I'll try it and report back.
