Looking for 8GB DDR2 X2 4GB
I am looking for x2 4GB sticks for my Dell XPS M1730 (PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM) It says it supports 8GB max. I only have 2GB right now and want to max it out. This is a 2009 gaming laptop. I am playing fallout New vegas on Med settings. It is fine but keeps crashing everything 20min to 45min. I think the ram is one of the reasons. I found some on ebay but are going for $150+ and all the sticks are shipping from china.

You are obviously not searching properly, try eBay for: 4gb sodimm pc2-5300 -2gb -1gb
and get prices for ~$25 per sodimm (from China), such as

Re: Looking for 8GB DDR2 X2 4GB
Why not try borrowing some RAM from your T6x and see if the crashing stops? Afterall you do know that the XPS M1730 do use graphics that is prone to death just like the T61. And tbh I would find a newer but much cheaper laptop to abuse with my games - the XPS M1730 is worth about as much as a fully loaded LED modded T601 frankenpad on ebay!ThinkPad560X wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:32 amI am looking for x2 4GB sticks for my Dell XPS M1730 (PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM) It says it supports 8GB max. And yeah you should try better looking on ebay. The prices even from domestic US sellers have come way down now there's no need to come to me for these RAM sticks anymore!

Re: Looking for 8GB DDR2 X2 4GB
The graphics card is removable in the XPS. The M1730 is a good machine, for all I am using it for. I completely took apart the entire laptop to clean it and add new thermal paste to the CPU and GPU and even regreased the hinges. When I got it, it was hard to open and was almost ready to brake/crack the LCD lid or the hinge itself. The power brick did fail and took a while to find another one. I keep the laptop on an airflow base I built to allow air to get up under it and is on an angle with the slanted back facing up. The LED keyboard still lights up along with the lights on the back lid. It has a 1TB SATA SSD running windows 7 Pro. I have a Dell XPS M1710 as well I think it is a year older then the M1730. It looks like the standard Dell Inspiron laptops of the Core 2 era but with custom color LEDs.
I am also wanting to max out all my machines ram and that is why I want to get the X2 4GB sticks.

Re: Looking for 8GB DDR2 X2 4GB
I am very well aware the M1730 has removable graphics, I actually had the Precision M90 before (the Precision version of M1710). But just a heads up that replacement graphics cards are getting increasingly harder to find for these things (and only M6300 M1730 graphics modules would work properly here). Keep the temps well under check (don't let it exceed 65C) and it should be fine. I liquid metalled the FX 1600M graphics on my Compaq 8710w though to achieve that.ThinkPad560X wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:56 pmThe graphics card is removable in the XPS. Yeah the hinges on these things like to stiffen up and self destruct if you don't regrease it. Tighten the hinge screws on all sides and lubricate the hinges well and they'll be pretty durable. Get a 240W Dell charger to get the ultimate reliability with the charging brick.
Again test it with known good RAM first before you go buy 4GB RAM sticks for these things. It is not impossible for the instability to be caused by something else. My Inspiron 6400 had GeForce 7200 Go but it actually had dying VCore capacitors rather than RAM issue or underfill issue when it presented with instabilities.
