Disk activity status LED exclusive for P series only

#1 Post by Puppy » Tue Sep 08, 2015 10:20 am

In the screen bezels sits the restored HDD LED (which I have been told stays exclusive for the P-series).

That makes the $1000 price difference !

I think more of deleted features will make it back to T series. The T/Wx40 were released with Windows 8 during hard times world wide so they were a bit wonky.

If you think this is funny:

T410, no battery status when lid is opened only way to see it is close and look at LED status on back. Yeah, I am more of hardware than software status in the tray.

Studio 1556, 7 an 8 HD activity LED is power ring, hit Fn+H every time computer turns on or rebooted.

Acer D270, No HD activity LED.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection

Things suck. Friend just called me and he said he bought new laptop for 200€ (AMD/2GB RAM) and said it's slow and sucks. Duh.
Windows 10 privacy sucks.
Laptops suck. Laptop keyboards suck, aspect ratios suck, durability sucks, at least view angle no longer sucks but otherwise we're going back to cheap home computers of 1980's like ZX spectrum - rubber keys and no status anything.

On expensive 1500€ T540p hinge broke after 2,5 years of normal use. They swapped it and top cover under warranty. Broken hinges on T4x and T6x were unheard of.

They have retooled all the factories for average MSRP of 300€ laptops and all the above 1000€ are made with same process and same design, QA and principles. They only have expensive CPUs, GPUs and SSDs. Today's >1000€ laptops are like the 17" Acers or HP Pavillions from 5 years ago. High end CPU and GPU in inadequately cooled chasis that causes them to throttle and falls apart in 3 years.

You must have forgotten the T61 series, where hinge-breaking happened regularly.
That's where the bad (Lenovo-)design started.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I guess it is not a hardware issue but caused by bloatware. I bought cheapest Acer Windows tablet in sale for my parents with 1 GB RAM, I was also wondering how slow it can be because my ThinkPad 8 has 4 GB RAM. Yep, slow. Then I removed all the crapware and it suddenly become pretty quick for most of operations. So the preinstalled crap is another issue these days.

No, the CPU is 1,35GHz dual Core. I think that AMD should be equivalent to Core2 Duo clock for clock. This is roughly on par with 1,5GHz Centrino or 1,8GHz P4. This is slower than my X61T with dual 1,6GHz Core2Duo. Also RAM is only 2GB and it came with MS DOS, he likely loaded something himself. I told him to sell that rubbish and buy something used with warranty.

And it's a Lenovo G50-45.
