What happens if I enter the wrong BIOS password 3 times?

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Mon Nov 28, 2022 10:26 am

The subject heading says it all. I have family members who keep typing the wrong password on their machines, but they've never reached the "too many attempts" limit. What will happen if they do?

And, a related question: should I set a supervisor password on their machines so that I can get in and undo any damage?

AFAIK you can't try #4, but if you fully switch off, you can start from scratch and try another 3, etc.
Not a bad idea if YOU put in an SVP to prevent your family from messing with the BIOS.
Just make sure it's kept in a place where they can find it (legally) should the need arise.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thank you - that's what I hoped was the case. I'll put in that SVP, adding it to the database that they all know how to open in case of emergency. Thank you again!
