Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
Hi all,
anybody here knows if this site
https://www.lenovorecovery.com/Extranet/Home.aspx
is a true Lenovo site, or just a fake, illegal site that sells recovery package pretending to be the real Lenovo?
A.

since this is around since at least 2011, and I did buy from them at that time, having no idea it was fake....
1) Shouldn't Lenovo be aware of this at this point?
2) Why they still didn't find a way to get them closed?
3) How can I test the disks for my x201s I received to know if they are good/safe or not?

They likely have no interest in that course of action, but I don't work for Lenovo so it's just my opinion.2) Why they still didn't find a way to get them closed?
I'm sure your disks are fine.3) How can I test the disks for my x201s I received to know if they are good/safe or not?

Another dead giveaway:
Please note that listed prices are final. The price consists only from admin and shipping fee, the recovery media is free of charge.

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
I am honestly confused...
I checked back into my old inbox.
My order was handled (and I received emails from) Peter Buco from a @lenovo.com address.
A Google search gives
http://sk.linkedin.com/pub/peter-buco/16/a58/67b
is there a fake Lenovo company in Slovatkia ?
or this is the real Slovatkia branch of Lenovo?

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
Lenovo's HQ for Europe are in Slovakia.
Lenovo charges for recovery media, not just "admin fee" and "shipping fee".
The site in question is registered to a private LLC.

If you want to keep on debating this issue, by all means PM Mark Hopkins either here or on Lenovo forum. I've got nothing to add. They most certainly are aware.

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
I am even more confused.
It looks like in the HQ of Lenovo Europe somebody has built an illegal website to sell Recovery Packages all over Europe asking serial numbers, by handling orders by Lenovo employees.
BTW, thanks for your replies, I will phone Lenovo tomorrow to know what I am still confused about.
I am sure I followed the "legal path" as I did for my T41p many years ago, to have the original Recovery Media, and it may sound absurd but I can't exclude that I reached that site after a phone call the Lenovo Support numbers.
But it could be my memory fails...
thanks again,

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
Hello,
as far as i understand, the site
https://www.lenovorecovery.com/Extranet/Home.aspx
is legit and is being operated by a subcontractor to Lenovo. I talked to Lenovo support several months ago and they gave me that URL for ordering recovery media. And the fact that they restrict themselves to charging an admin fee, a shipping fee, and tax doesn't mean they have to be crooks.

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
thanks TTY,
this is exactly what I believe I did 2 years ago, despite it is too long ago to be 100% sure.
Additionally my laptop was still under warranty, so the no-charges option sounded correct at that time to me.

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
So I called the italian Lenovo Support numbers few minutes ago:
I asked: "I am near to by a second-hand Thinkpad from a private seller still under warranty, and I have been told that the original partition on the HD has been erased. How can I order the Recovery Media? How much it cost? "
The man: "In this case we cannot send the Recovery Media to you, but you can go to www.lenovorecovery,com and order the CDs from them, you will pay just the admin and shipping costs".
I asked: In which case can you send the CD directly from Lenovo?
The man: Just in case the problem is from the HD, for a failure or because the HD has been changed.
I asked : Is there a cost in that case?
The man: No the cost is the same, just admin and shipping costs.
So, I don't know for the US and the rest of the world, but at least for Europe Lenovo Support numbers employees they direct the customers to this site to have the Recovery Package.
And the final question is : "Is Lenovo directing their customers to an illegal site?"

Re: Is this a Lenovo trustable site?
No. The reason you've been informed to the contrary here is that the site doesn't serve U.S. customers. Therefore, forum members from North America have probably never heard of it and seem to have concluded it must be a scam.achat_2 wrote:And the final question is : "Is Lenovo directing their customers to an illegal site?"
