IBM T42 USB ports

#1 Post by frankiebeee » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:44 pm

I have damaged the USB port on my laptop - is there any way of replacing it (one of my dogs sent my lappy flying one day and there was something attached to the usb port and it bent it + the other one doesn't seem to be working well any more).

I used my old non-functioning T40 to replace the dvd drive but not sure if I can do same with usb

If you are good with a soldering iron, you should be able to transfer the USB ports off your T40 to the T42.

Even easier is to get a PCMCIA USB adapter. They work fine, but you can't boot from USB with 'em. At least my X40 won't.
Collection = T430 - T500 - R400 - X300 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - R61 (15" SXGA+) - T60 - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P

The PCMCIA "inside hide" models work great :
