LF: Feedback on Lenovo external battery charger

#1 Post by mpcook » Mon Jun 10, 2013 9:35 pm

Interested in any feedback on the Lenovo external battery charger http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... MIGR-61244

I am in need of a solution where I have to run an X220 continuously under high power usage for 8 - 10 hours and so will need to hot swap batteries several times a day. Thinking an extra battery and this charger might work, but wondering if anyone has used it and if so, how long does it take to fully charge (I'll be using X220 9 cell batteries). TIA. -Mike

Hi,

I prefer to have more than 2 spare batteries than using that external battery charger :D But that's just me ..
By having more than two 9-cells batteries for my T61, I can use my ThinkPad for more than 10 hours (don't forget by using SSD, it sure does make battery life longer ) without recharging ..

Since you have X220, you might want to have spare batteries .. I think it's faster to recharge the battery on the laptop rather on the external battery charger .. Whenever you see an AC outlet, just plug the AC adapter to your laptop :D

Maybe others will write a better comment than me :D

Thanks, appreciate the comment. I will not have time to charge the laptop during the 8 hours, except for a 30 minute lunch break, so I either have to have enough batteries to get through the day, or be able to charge one externally. Based on some testing, it looks like I will get about 2 hours per charge, so I would need 4 batteries in that case (maybe 5 to be safe).

from what I've read from Lenovo's site for that external battery charger, it'll always recharge the battery to 100% state ...
I don't think recharging ThinkPad's battery to 100% is a good idea, I got a performance degrade every time I recharge my T61's battery to 100% ...

btw, do you use ssd on your X220? samsung 840 non pro / pro saves a lot power when idle ... I saw my friend's X220 here in Indonesia where his X220's battery can hold up to 9 hours use without recharging (I think he's using the lowest battery configuration and he uses a combination of msata ssd and a traditional hdd )

:D
