Thermal Paste Longevity?

#1 Post by Tasurinchi » Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:22 pm

Hi thinkpadders!

I have a couple of Artic 5 Thermal paste lying around. They must be 5 years old at least. My uneducated guess is that I could still use them, can anybody confirm that thermal paste does not have a kind of "expiring date"?

Thanks all in advance!!

I have a small jelly jar sized container of a thermal compound that I have been using for years. It has always run 1 degree warmer than Artic-Silver. I dont think a few years one way or the other makes much difference. The jar of stuff I have must be 20 plus years old.

Good to know, thanks! I'll see if I find them first :D

I don't think there are new big developments regarding thermal compounds, is this correct? Artic Silver 5 was regarded as one of the bests several years ago, but I wasn't following the developments in this area...

Arctic Silver 5 is still near the top of the list -

Thanks for the link Harry! It's good to know that "some" things never change

Edit: That's a very good article. The interesting thing is that they were testing different methods of aplying termal paste in the cooler itself, and not on the CPU.
