Serial and product number different beetwen sticker and bios

#1 Post by Cookies » Tue Dec 07, 2004 5:05 am

I all

I'm very disapointed :? I buy à T40p and i have a little problem.

Before to buy the notebook i verified the warranty lookup with the product and serial number. All is ok. Good location, good machine ( as is really a T40p )

But when i try a warranty lookup by direct detection on the IBM site, i have other information !!!

Manual warranty lookup : T40p 2373-EG3
Auto detection : T40 2373-12G

Not the same location, not the same specification, not the same date warranty etc etc

So i checked in the bios aera and i have the same reference as the auto detection.

So what the probleme ? What can i do ?

The motherboard has been changed. That is a common repair if memory or some other integrated part (NIC) on the motherboard fails. IBM or its partner replaces the board under warranty. They are supposed to use the same model board but the model number and serial number changes. With the T41 (I don't know about the T40) you can change the model number and serial number with the BIOS diskette. Other models can be changed with a Hardware Maintenance diskette that vendors have.

Have you verified you truly have a T40p motherboard. If the motherboard was changed you might wind up with ATI7500 32mb video instead of the ATI FireGL 9000 64MB video.
