Modified GMA 9xx drivers, not sure where it can be posted

#1 Post by steveg1988 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 8:35 am

I recently came across this forum, http://forum.9xxssf.info , and they offer a GMA9xx series modified driver for vista,7,and xp (xp has version 1.2)

For example using the Vista Performance scale that goes upto 5.9 i went from 2.8 for desktop graphics to 3.0 and from 2.9 for gaming to 3.1 this driver allows for slightly better performance, and it does make aero feel snappier (i perfer vista on the 1024x768 LCD due to 7 taking up more space) And i have not tested it in games, yet, but it seems to help quite a bit.

You have to register to access the downloads, but if people would perfer me to i will direct link the downloads here

Sounds interesting. Can you provide more information about the modified drivers? Like what is it based on and what modifications have been made?

Thanks in advance.

From the forum: What to expect from modded drivers topic

Modded Drivers consist of basically the installer inf file (igxp32.inf, igdlh.inf etc.) and additional supporting files (*.sys, *.dll files and also managing software). With this work you can change driver options like startups, hotkey actions activity etc. Also you can change your graphic adapters name in device manager if the need presents itself. And the most important point of modding is that, you can mod drivers created for more extensive or more comprehensive cards to work on older GPU's (Graphics Processing Unit). For example: modding Intel 4 Series drivers to both stabilize and enhance performance for the 945 GPU. This can provide some advantages over original functions, especially in Operating systems such as Windows Vista. Modding trials have been operated by both volunteers and group members. With every driver announced, driver files are being improved and expanded upon from the older versions. This means in theory that the newer driver, the better performance (due to the nature of drivers this is not a linear progression). Some issues may persist and even stem from the Modded Driver, but the trade off from Performance to Compatibility (Especially OpenGL) makes the transition truly worth it. It can only be expressed as "newer is better" and as newer drivers are released......well..... the sky is the limit with the work we do here. So, here is a condensed list of what modded drivers bring:

For Windows XP:
FPS Boost in most games
New Graphic Options Menu (Software Enhancements)
No startups like hotkeys (optional)
We've finally fixed OpenGL functions, so now you can keep the OpenGL compatibility you enjoyed with the original Driver
Just as stable as the original, if not improved upon.
.
.
For Vista/Win7
FPS increase in some games (especially Source games like hl2, css etc.)
Theoretically eliminates the usage of 3dA for rendering TnL as modded driver can emulate it via addgame.reg or the Display Manager Tool (Read Driver specific details)
Improve the performance of shaders (mostly noticable with pixel shader) (Win7 only)
.
However, modded drivers have yet to fix the following:

For Windows XP:
- No Hardware/Software TnL (950GMA)
- No Hardware/Software Vertex Shaders (950GMA)
- No Complete Shader Model 2.0 (for above reasons on 950GMA)

For Windows Vista/7
- Full emulation of Shader models above in regards to what the hardware can handle. In otherwords, a 950GMA will not have Shader Model 3.0 nor will a 965GMA have Shader model 4.0

What's new in Sherry 1.3

Improve OpenGL performance
Improve Software vertex compatibility and performance
Improve DirectDraw compatibility and performance
Fix several stability issue

Increased performance 150% compared to Sherry 1.2
Better memory management
Avalon.reg Compatible
Better Aero Performance
Better Desktop Window Manager performance
CPU Web acceleration (WebGL) for firefox and Chrome
Better management for low-end CPUs
Control Panel fix
Power Saving Features fixed
Better power usage and saving in idle or low workload
HTML5 canvas and video acceleration (vary from browser used)
Better support for Virtual Machine (Graphics Acceleration) (tested on VirtualBox)
Pixel Shader performance increased
Better Video playback quality
Better display quality for LCD/FlatPanel
improved codes for ig4icd.dll
More game compatibility
Random flicker issue fix for several games, mostly Source engine based
Snappier Windows experience
Massage Signalled Interupt limit increased to 1024
Hardware Flash Acceleration

Sherry 1.3.1

Notes on the update package

Improve WebGL performance up to 5% more than the original 1.3
Fixed : Several "driver not validated for system" issues on some systems
Fixed : Several BSODs on some systems.
Fixed : Some minor bugs (bitbashing support disabled)

Windows Xp Sherry V 1.2

Some of the highlights, new features / technology implemented :

- Full OpenGL 1.2 up to 1.5 (experimental) support
- Major code rev since V1.0 creations
- Compatible with Haze's IGDRM
- Dynamic Memory Speed
- Isolated Frame Buffer
- Dynamic Vertex Threading (for SWVP)
- Flexible Vertex Shader
- IDVM (Improved Dynamic Virtual Memory)
- MSI-X rev 2
- IFS-MSI Combo
- SSE3 Threading Optimizations (for SWVP)
- Dual Core Vertex Threading (for SWVP)
- DynamicMemorySpeed
- IsolatedFrameBuffer

and change log for the V1.2 rev 2

- Added DynamicScalling Support
- Added Peformance increase for newer game engine
- Added more custom codes for this release
- Added SSE3 Optimizations
- Added Multicore Threading fixes
- Added a bundle amount of new technology in Driver
- Fixed random Halo flicker / graphical glitch with lighting/flash
light on
- Fixed general performance degrade for older game engine
- Fixed Device failed to recognize/minimum system requirement does not
meet
- Fixed pure vertex processing does not recognize
- Fixed 2D performance issue
- Fixed performance issue on GSE / GME chipsets
- Fixed MMX and SSE2 compatibility codes
- Fixed DirectDraw performance instability
- Fixed some games crashing caused by V1.2 using too much CPU
- Fixed glitch on random windows usage
- Fixed some minor problems experience in V1.0, V1.1 and V1.1E

tech spec :

V1.2 Sherry Driver
945 M/D V 1.2.0.9190 - rev 2 - 20100904
9xxssf - GMA9xx Soldier Sans Frontiers - 2010
Created by AngelicTears - 2010

SSE3 optimization requires supported CPU with SSE3 instructions.
V1.2 Dynamic Memory Speed requires at least RAM dual channel
configuration
IDVM relies on OS memory requirements, less memory requires by the OS,
more resource available for graphics.

When I tried it on an X61, Firefox would cause the driver to seize up and crash often. Maybe they fixed it?

can you add support shader 3.0, gma 950support 3.0 but driver don't support, same for x3100. and can you overclock ot or undervolt for better performance? for all gma gpu
