T42 Hard drive swap

#1 Post by tidewater » Thu Dec 22, 2011 8:45 am

Hi all,

I just tried to swap out a 20Gb drive with a 160Gb drive I bought online. I didn't think I would have so much trouble at step 1.

I got the drive out and successfully (so I thought) put the new drive in, but Boot list does not say that there is a drive.

I put the old drive back in, and now it won't even see the old drive! I have the label side toward the screen, which I am positive is how I found it (other sites suggest it can be upside down).

Really need my laptop back, any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi. You have to install the HDD upside down - the HDD's electronic board must be on top when installing your new HDD into the laptop.

Thank you!

I can't believe the engineers would design it so that it goes both ways.
The quick reply was much appreciated (and a little sleep always helps).
