Upgrading T43 screen is it plug and play?

#1 Post by chowda633 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:41 pm

Just got a T43 off ebay I did not notice it only has the 1024x768 screen. I have a T41 that is having screen problems due to something in the board. Screen fuzzing out etc. Can I swap over the screen to the T43? Or can I just buy a higher rez T43 screen for it.

I have been doing computers for 15+ years no worries on doing the work just wondering if it will work.

Btw really enjoying these Thinkpads!

Welcome to the forum!

What's the 7-character model number of that T43 that you're looking to upgrade?

If it's an ATi-based unit (model number beginning in 26xx) the upgrade is plug and play presuming you swap the entire lid.

If it has Intel graphics (model number starting in 187x) the upgrade is not possible.

Excellent! Thank you for the warm welcome as well! Yes it is a ATI based unit. Has the ATI mobility x300. Not sure how much ram that one is.

Only thing is with the T43 is that it has blu tooth. So I am assuming if I have to swap the complete lid I need a T43 screen and swapping the T41 lid will not work because it does not have the blu tooth antenna built in.

If your T41 had SXGA+ (1400x1050) LCD it most likely had a BT antenna as well, even if the card itself wasn't installed. You'll find out once you pull the lid off the base.

Should I turn to be wrong in my presumption, you could move the LCD, cable and inverter from the T41 lid into the T43 one.

Happy swapping.
