I think that I have a wireless card go bad, and I put in a new card. I was having issues with connecting with my router, but all seems to be working now.

Now that I've put in a card, it seems like the internet is faster.

Is it just because the internet is working again, or can this card actually be faster?

The new one is an atheros abg card,

and I think the old one is an intel bg card.

Seems zipper anyways....

In many cases, the key issue lies with the router.

My cheapo Westell (Verizon-issued) positively hates Intel cards in Windows environment, but works with them just fine in Linux.

Absolutely loves anything Atheros-chipped...which would be your "new"card...

Well, I've had both for a very very long time. So it's very strange that this happened today.

I did a sample in network transfer. Seems like the throughput is down compared to the old card. But the 'burst' speed seems to be better?

Who knows.

Thankfully I have a dead thinkpad to pull parts from. Good thing I bricked it. If not, I would have been out parts and time.
