I really enjoyed my T42p and its screen. It's been dead a while. It has a failed backlight on the IPS screen, and beyond that, the graphics got squirrely after going into Windows - I take it to be a GPU failure?
I'm guessing there's no real economic way to repair it to keep it as a back-up machine? That screen made browsing so enjoyable. Nothing else remotely affordable compared.

It is possible to change the backlight bulb but it requires a very clean environment, steady hands and attention. On IPS panel (especially UXGA) it is well worth the effort but be careful with the dust as it can get between the layers easily and even small specs are very noticeable. I have seen a "dust-free" chamber made of plastic film that was moisturized before assembly (it was in electronics shop) and it would be feasible for an amateur also to make. It is not possible to get 100% dust-free environment (even micro chip factories don't achieve that despite special suits on employees etc) but it would help a lot.
Regarding system board, RealBlackStuff has a wide variety of reballed boards to offer for a reasonable price and maybe he could change out the backlight also.

The Board Room has only a minimal stock of boards left, and does NOT change backlights!Raceboy wrote:Regarding system board, RealBlackStuff has a wide variety of reballed boards to offer for a reasonable price and maybe he could change out the backlight also.
But I wrote instructions for doing so here.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
