US-based (preferably CA) reviewer of brand-new T50 sought!

#1 Post by Johan » Fri Apr 11, 2014 3:13 am

Fellow ThinkPad'ers:

This morning I received the following highly interesting PM:
... from a forum.thinkpads.com member, who wrote:Hi Johan,

I received my T50 from China last week. And I love it so much!! To express my sincere gratitude for their great works, I'd like to ship my machine to some moderator or admin member in this forum and let him test and write a review about it. They can even open the machine to look inside if they want but I need find someone who is experienced and worthy of being trusted. Do you have any recommendations? Are they interest in it? I live in Irvine, California, USA. I can ship it in USA.

Thanks and regards,
So, who of you Admins or co-moderators here on the forum, experts in ThinkPad's and preferably based (more or less) near Irvine, CA, would be willing to accept this fantastic friendly and greatly generous, absolutely outstanding offer? It is obvious that the owner of this probably "first-ever-in-the-US" T50 should be certainly be guaranteed that his new T50 shall be handled with nothing but the utmost care and love! :-)

Wow is all I can say - can't almost wait to read this review!!! 8)

THANKS - absolutely an awesome offer... this is simply forum.thinkpads.com at its very best; such a friendly and overly helpful, sharing community owing to members such as this friend!

PS: If some expert-member would be willing to take on this review, but cannot afford the fully insured forth-and-back shipping cost, please let us know here in this thread, and we will no doubt very fast and very easily pool up what needs to be spent on shipping. I'd say we, the forum members who are so eagerly looking forward to this review, should at least pool up to cover the shipping cost... that's the least we can do!

Please reply in this thread, and not via PM - thanks.

Very kind regards,

Johan

We have only ONE real T43/p expert here, and that is, and always has been, without a doubt [drum-roll...] George / Ajkula66!

Ditto what RBS said and I can't think of anyone more trustworthy or reliable.

A big "thank you" to my friends RBS and dsvochak for recommending silly old me for this task...

While I'm not an Admin/Mod and definitely not in CA, I'd be absolutely delighted to review the item in question...and bear any shipping costs involved.

Thanks very much, Dominic, dsvochak and George for your replies; it seems that we have a plan here! Just received a PM from the T50-owner, who is also "pro-ajkula66"! :-)

The following is therefore what I just PM'ed to the T50-owner:
Dear Joe,

As to the recommendation of a TOP ThinkPad Expert-reviewer, super-perfectly qualified, completely careful, totally tender etc. with your new, beautiful, speedy black baby  I too can fully and with no hesitation recommend and endorse George (ajkula66)... nothing to add to what RealBlackStuff said; George would/will be perfect, not the least owing to his big interest in this project, in addition to his huge experience with the T4x-generation of ThinkPad's.

One thing, however: If possible, I'd like to insist that we; the forum members who will benefit from your awesome kind offer to get an opportunity to read this forthcoming expert-review; that you allow us to pay all the shipping cost (fully insured, the most safe and careful shipping)... Again, that's the least we can do "in return" for your fantastic friendly offer, I'd say. I therefore suggest that you let us know the total anticipated cost of shipping (forth and back), and also post e.g. your PayPal-address... thanks in advance for listening to this small "prayer"!

Thanks very much, Joe, and I'm excited to see/read the review! Hey, by the way, I'm certain that many users will/would be interested to hear how you became owner of the (most likely!) first T50 in the Western World; how did you manage that?

Kind regards,

Johan
So, thanks very much George, for your very kind offer... and I almost can't wait to see/read this review!!! Wonderful news!! :D

Insanely lucky string of events, although bound to happen sooner or later...!

This is amazing news... I really hope things go well with getting the T50 over to you. This has to have a lot of us on our toes.

Irvine is just south of Los Angeles... I live in Chico, which is in Northern California, quite a ways away unfortunately.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

May I suggest doing a quick test with a live (USB or DVD) of a recent Linux distribution like Ubuntu 14.04 or Fedora 20 just to see if it behaves relatively with non Windows OS?

This is great news and and seriously looking forward to ajkula66's review. I can't help but wonder why they aren't actively selling the T50 outside Shenzhen but maybe this is still to come. Could there be warranty concerns we can only ponder.
Is this part of a second batch or have they just made mods to the original batch? Where there is money involved normally there is activity but Hope seems to be holding the reins on the T50 for now. We still have many questions but at least we get an experienced thinkpadder to review an initial batch.
