Is the Ultrabay Slim HD Drive Adapter FRU 62P4553 suitable for PATA or SATA HDs. What's correct? Was there an early IBM version for PATA and a later Lenovo for SATA?

And, has FRU 62P4553 the curved bezel for T4x or a straight one used by T6x?

62P4553 is for PATA only, and has a curved bezel.
There are newer (non-IBM/Lenovo) caddies for SATA, such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321906095854 with AFAIK only a straight bezel.

Lenovo made an eIDE to SATA adapter under P/N 26R9247 / FRU 26R9246. I have an original sitting on my desk collecting dust. It was intended for the 60-series but can work with older 40-series systems. The bezel is indeed flat.

I also have an original IBM 62P4552/62P4553 eIDE to PATA adapter sitting underneath it, collecting slightly less dust due to its location. These have chamfered bezels due to originating with the 40-series.

At some point I'll list them for sale.
