Here are some picture of my two ThinkPads, my workhorse L520 and my older R50e (love both of them :D):

The L520s chassis is a bit better than the one of the R50e.

Nice machines. It's amazing how shorter and wider the L520 is for almost the same screen diagonal. That's 4:3 vs 16:9 for you. It's also a bit slimmer than the R50e. Those R50s were mostrosities! :D

Yeah. :) They are very fat, especially in comparison to the T420i of my mother.

Thats right, and the L520 is a bit lighter than the R50e. 16:9 vs. 4:3: I prefer the screen of my L520 because it 1600x900 (quite good) as the resolution, while the R50e has 1024x768 (terrible). Before I bought my L520, I used a R60 with the same pathetic resolution, so the L520 was a great step forward for me.

Well, the R60 could be had with 1400x1050, which I'd take over 1600x900 any day (more balanced IMO). But, yeah, most of them were with 1024x768. And R50e, being an ultra-budget model would naturally not be offered with anything higher than the lowest end...
