My IBM ThinkPad 560X, My first owned laptop
I got my first laptop back in late 90s (Personal owned one) it was a IBM ThinkPad 560X or sometimes I would call it X560 since it fits into the X Series ThinkPads of today, slim and no disc drive. It has a Intel Pentium II with a 300MHz processor and a max of 160MB memory, installed a 128MB stick to max, same type as for my 380Z. I upgraded to a 128GB CF card SSD and running Windows XP Professional. It features a 12.1 LCD display and 1 USB port 1.0 or 1.1. As for me saying in other post I can't wait for 3D print motherboards to make a custom fit for your laptop or desktop, mainly laptop and have the most recent hardware in your older laptop. So back in mid 2000s around when the fingerprint reader came out on the ThinkPad T41, I liked the feature I have on my T43p and wanted it on my 560X, So I got a IBM USB fingerprint reader.
I had another palmrest laying around and made a custom cut fit for the reader on the 560X and cut to match the same shape angle cut as a normal reader would look as it curves down to the reader where you can slide your finder on too. I debated of either put it under the arrow keys like T40s or under mouse clicks like X40, I went the T40 way.
My 560X now today and yes I added a purple enter key, I also added the grey keys but didnt stay on from off a junk T40 keyboard, so purple enter key stayed only.

Nice touch with that fingerprint reader. A nice unit, btw. The 560Z is one of my favorites among my PII/PIII era Thinkpads.

Re: My IBM ThinkPad 560X, My first owned laptop
I have the 560, 560X and 560Z, no 560E since it was the same specs as 560, and 560,560E do not have any USB Ports nor support 32bit PCMCIA cards with the gold end on them. I also have the docking station for the 560X and 560Z.
Adds 2 more PCMCIA slots X4, 1 USB port, Printer, VGA, Serial, Game Port, Audio ports and a Ethernet LAN port.
It was hard to install the fingerprint reader as I had to open it up since it was big and the battery is right under where it is mounted but made easy to cut. I only wish I could solder another USB port inside the motherboard under keyboard to hide the USB cable when pluged in.
These machines are getting harder to find on ebay now, even for a 560Z almost impossible to find unless they are $200, even 600 models are getting up in price.

Re: My IBM ThinkPad 560X, My first owned laptop
I owned a 570E for a short while, but have seen a 560 series (meaning I don't recall the exact model) only once, at a thrift store. The 570E is more attractive -- in fact, I consider it one of the best-looking Thinkpads ever -- but the older design of the 560/E/X/Z makes them look more interesting. The 570E doesn't look very different from subsequent 4:3 Thinkpads, whereas the 560 series clearly belongs to an older era. It's amazing that laptop design could shift so abruptly.

Re: My IBM ThinkPad 560X, My first owned laptop
Is this what use to be in that small squared area on the 560,380,760 models?
I always wondered what it was their for and if you look it says LG IBM. I got a better image of a ThinkPad i series with the LG IBM ThinkPad logo too.
Heres what I found:

These were found only in Korea
I like the ThinkPad lettering on the front corner.

Re: My IBM ThinkPad 560X, My first owned laptop
I have one 560X with 233MMX CPU. And this is wonderful ThinkPad because of fanless design and full length keyboard in ultraportable case.
Adding SSD or CF to IDE can make it Completely Silent Thinkpad.
Yes the blue enter and ThinkPad logo on front edge are looks cool. But fingerprint reader. Mine have only 160MB of RAM and torturing it with XP is a horror. Initially i wanted to set up an OS/2 for it... But absence of normal CD drive (i have gotten it with pcmcia CD;) makes me wait for some time. (Yes i know about pure diskette method;).
But main question is - where have you got battery for 560? I have found some 600s batteries on ebay and no one for 560s:(
Have read about recelling batteries for old ThinkPad and i want to try it.
