An Uncommon G40 - Pics!

#1 Post by virge » Thu Nov 12, 2009 1:42 pm

I recently upgraded a relative to a T60... and re-acquired this G40. I've wanted to get the G40 back for some time because of a project I had in mind. Finally had some time yesterday and it was a success. I know the pictures aren't the best, but can you see what makes this G40 uncommon?

It looks like you've installed a FlexView LCD.

You guys and gal are good!

I installed the SXGA+ Flexview panel last night. My A31 (2653-Q5U) was one of the models with a Flexview panel. I've been wanting to try this experiment for a while, so when the A31 died and I got the G40 back it was the perfect chance to try transplant. In between I also tried it out in a R51E (didn't work).

Its pretty much a straight swap. emeraldgirl08 confirmed that a R4x panel works in a R5x, and I knew that a A3x panel would work in a R5x (from experience)... and thinkwiki showed that the R4x was compatible with the G4x.

No crazy stuff required on my end. I had to put a fold in the LCD ribbon cable to shorten it, and the power leads to the inverter had to be extended. I clipped off the end from a bad panel and soldered it on. I almost burned it up on accident when I got the wires flipped. Fortunately, I caught this error before powering it up. :D

This transplant should also work with a T4x or R5x IPS panel.

I know this thread is really old, but do you still have that wallpaper? It looks very nice, even from strange angles!

I love this project! I have a soft spot for the big beasts of the line-up, and would rather not wait for the prices of the W700 to come down. So in my world that means the A3x and G4x. So "build-ups" like this and Underclockers MB transplants have to be my favorite threads! Great job Andy!:thumbs-UP:
