T-Series Overkill
T-Series Overkill
I was straightening my desk this morning and had to laugh at this silliness......I really only need one but somehow they seem to be multiplying!! Now instead of a "new window" I can just use a "new Thinkpad." Thought I would snap a couple shots since its relatively clutter-free at the moment......
Left to right,
-15" T60p (in training to be daily driver)
-14" T60 (travel beater and Win7 test machine)
-15" T42p (current daily driver)
-Dell 2007FP
Louis XV (reproduction, of course) desk and other cool stuff belonged to my late father-in-law; best office chair ever is a Recaro seat from BMW 320i- perfect match to the Thinkpads!!!

Your work place is very stylish. You got good classic taste. I also use the same mouse.
I like the 14 inch TN display of the T4 series, definitely good panel.

Re: T-Series Overkill
It is actually a T6x, but you know, I think I am starting to agree with you. I was very skeptical having used only the UXGA Flexview for years. But I have been dragging the beater T60 around a lot, something that I never really did with the treasured T42p for fear that it would break. This particular panel has some issues, but I have to say that the SXGA+ is a fairly decent display, even if it is not a Flexview. All in all I've been pleasantly surprised.ssd_thinkpad wrote: I like the 14 inch TN display of the T4 series, definitely good panel.

I'm with HarryC on this: the office itself is amazing....love the wood. And I always wanted one of those Recaro chairs from the first time I saw one in a catalog back in the 80's!

Re: T-Series Overkill
Very nice layout. I agree, the 14" TN SXGA+ screen in the T60 is pretty good. I had two them (one T60, one T60p), and both were entirely satisfactory.

Yes, E21. They were/are quite common and the "s" models (amongst others) came with Recaros from the factory. I found this one on Craigslist.j-dawg wrote:320i?? In the USA? Must be an E21?
Thanks for all the kind comments on the library; my father-in-law built it himself, by hand.

He must be a superskilled uber handyman. I always wanted to get a table like that in mahogany, and the cheapest one costs around 3500 dollars, but the quality of the wood usually isn't great.
But love the study, goes really well with the Thinkpads that you have.

V nice. Never driven an E21 but I have always been curious about them. I never see them in Chicago as they all rusted away decades ago, so they're a novelty to me.mbarker wrote:

Tell us a little about that desk and it's history,I can feel it has a story to tell.
Seems both Italian and French influences, not often you get to see a $20,000+ executive desk on a forum.

Re: T-Series Overkill
The desk is of contemporary manufacture, in the Louis XV style. I don't believe that it was terribly expensive; certainly not $20k. It is just a piece that my late father-in-law found someplace and decided to use in his library. Sorry, not much of a story. Quality is so-so, but it does show very nicely. Thanks for all the comments.goraman wrote:Tell us a little about that desk and it's history,I can feel it has a story to tell.

From the picture I would have guessed it to be at least 200 years old wit a replacement leather top.
It dose show very well.
It has alot of different influences in it's styling. I have seen a lot of king Louis style living room sets but your desk is completely different by design.
Regardless it looks stunning in the photos.

Very nice indeed! The only concern I would have is the amount of electricity consumed by running all those machines 24/7/365(366).
