Turn Off That Annoying BEEEP?

#1 Post by 5tein » Fri Jun 22, 2007 10:42 am

I'm looking for a way to disable the system beeps on my Thinkpad T60.

I've already turned SOUNDS off in the Windows Control Panel.

I've also tried replacing every sound file with an empty .WAV in the Control Panel.

Yet the beep still occurs when I login, or when I mis-type on the keyboard.

Similarly, on my department's X60s it does an equally nasty beep whenever it goes to sleep, wakes up, or has the power plugged in or out.

Start device manager.
Show hidden devices.
Click on Non-Plug and Play Devices.
Double-click on Beep in the list and disable it.
Reboot and the annoying beep is silenced.
Current: T60p (2007-93G). Previous: T23 (2647-9LG).

Enter the BIOS on startup to shut off the beeps (alarms):

1) push the power button to start (or restart)
2) push the blue ThinkVantage button quickly (unless you get another option for how to enter the BIOS)
3) Find the ALARMS section, should be under CONFIG
4) Disable all the alarms.
5) Save the new BIOS settings and exit, then restart.
