T23 & Foxconn T60N871.02

#1 Post by FiltroMan » Fri Dec 23, 2011 1:26 am

Hi guys!
I've been watching this forum for a while and finally I get to a registration! I'm writing from Italy via my T23 with Xubuntu 11.10 on! I'd like to upgrade it by reusing a Foxconn T60N871.02 wireless module which I recovered from a Toshiba Satellite, but everytime I try to install it into the correct slot, the BIOS stops me... I really don't know how to make it work, but I'm sure that you all will make me figure it out! I don't want to replace this "black tank".

Cheers!

Luca

Welcome to the Forum.
what error(s) do you get, 1802 and/or 01C9?
If so, download this: http://rapidshare.com/files/145019337/wifi_v2.zip.html
In the downloaded zip-file is an .ISO
Burn that onto a blank CD using e.g. ImgBurn from http://www.imgburn.com/
Remove the wifi card first.
Then boot from that new CD (press F12 at start to select the boot-order) and run either or both programs from the CD.
Then reinstall the card.
Drivers are everywhere by the looks of it.
Buon Natale.

Real, thanks for your advice, I patched error 1802, but when I try to patch error 01C9 (with or without the Wi-Fi card inserted into Mini-PCI slot) but the tool doesn't work properly because (I suppose) the chipset isn't Atheros but Foxconn, and isn't recognized by the tool you gave me.

Any other ideas?

Happy Christmas too!

P.S.
Thanks for the greetings, but I'm agnostic :D. Don't care!

You need to run those programs without the wifi-card.
They have nothing to do with the card's chipset, they change something in the BIOS.
If that card doesn't work (it's meant for a Toshiba, not a Thinkpad!), get another one, like the Intel 2200BG, Broadcom BCM94306MP, etc.

Hello!

Does ANYONE have a good link for the wifi_v2.zip boot cd file? All the links I have found are dead!

Thanks to anyone and everyone here for the great information!

Usually all you need is a fix for the 1802 error (the 01c9 is very rare).
You can use the DOS version from a floppy or an .iso.

Remove the wifi card first.
