Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
Hey Guys,
I am 55 y/o and I have removed my very first keyboard and bezel -- Thanks to T30 Maintenance Manual, 92p1840.pdf, downloaded from Lenovo's website. (The most difficult step was the next to last step, where I needed to loosen the six "letter b" claws at the front. I slide my thumbnail between the top and bottom seams -- going from left to right.)
The problem is that my left mouse button on the Ultra Nav/Touch Pad sticks down.
I thought that I would simply remove the keyboard bezel, and then remove and clean the Ultra Nav/Touch Pad.
Unfortunately, the Ultra Nav/Touch Pad is permanently mounted to the keyboard bezel.
What do you guys suggest?
1) Purchase another keyboard bezel.
2) Spray silicon spray under mouse button and let dry.
3) Bend the torsion bar-like spring to create more lift.
4) Other

Re: Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
I have a halfway decent, empty T30 base (with I/O board but without RAM- and wifi-doors), as well as a T30 keyboard bezel P/N 46L4785 sitting here.
The front left corner of the KB-bezel is partly broken, but some good (Super/Krazy) glue will fix that.
Apart from that the bezel looks almost new.
|...cracked from the left side, downward

|___________<--front of bezel
The above is roughly what the crack looks like (i.e. the 3 back slashes, from the left top down).
I can ship you both for $8.50
PM me if interested.

Re: Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
It has become obvious to me that the little torsion bar-like spring has grown weak over time.
I pulled my back-up T30 out of the closet. It receives very little use. Using this machine, the spring on the left click button is just as strong as the spring on the right click button.
Appearance is important to me, so I will do some more shopping.
Off on a related tangent... I purchased a USB wireless keyboard and mouse for use with my T61. I use my T30 away from home. So hopefully, I will never have this issue with my T61.

1) Reminder to anyone who might read this post...
a. whenever replacing the CMOS battery, always use your eyes (magnifying glass, if necessary) to verify that the little white connector does go into proper slot.
2) Question for experts...
a. At first, my machine would not "boot-up" from harddrive
b. When I ran CMOS setup to reset date and time, I verified that setup saw
the model no of my harddrive
c. However, I only received F1 and F12 prompts on start-up screen (not usual F11)
d. I re-ran CMOS setup to move USB Flashdrive ahead of HDD
e. At first, my machine would not "boot-up" from flashdrive either.
f. I only received splash screen with F1 and F12 prompts.
g. I left the room to obtain 1.44 diskette Ultrabay adapter and bootable diskette.
h. When I returned, my machine "booted-up" into DOS flashdrive.
i. I verified touchpad worked properly in a DOS program.
j. I powered-off my machine.
k. I removed USB flashdrive.
l. I powered-up my machine and it "booted" into Windows XP perfectly.
m. Now, everything is working normally.
n. Someone please explain what happened?

Re: Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
After the CMOS has been without battery power for several days,
Is it normal for it to require 5 to 10 minutes to relearn the configuration of the hard drive?

Re: Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
After the CMOS battery has been pulled for a while it is normal for the system to have a delay in boot up as the BIOS/CMOS re-detects all the installed hardware. 5 to 10 minutes does seem to be a bit excessive though. As long as the system is booting normal after the initial detection boot up then I wouldn't worry about it. Possibly a hardware device such as the hard drive was slow to respond to the BIOS/CMOS re-detection. If the system is continually slow to boot after the initial detection boot up then I would suspect the system has another problem.

Re: Ultra Nav/Touch Pad Left Button Woes...
The length of initial detection boot up (after re-installing the CMOS battery) was about 5 minutes. Everything is working fine now.Majestic wrote:After the CMOS battery has been pulled for a while it is normal for the system to have a delay in boot up as the BIOS/CMOS re-detects all the installed hardware...
