T21 Bios update not working

#1 Post by bluegrill » Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:17 am

I have a T21 2647-97U. The bios is at version 1.11. I downloaded the 1.16 update. When I run it it seems to work normally. The unit powers off as it should. When I power it back on the bios is still at 1.11. Any suggestions?

Is your CMOS battery still working?
Did you update via floppy: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... IGR-4PJN8Y
or in Windows: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS003383

I think the CMOS battery is working. The clock and date are correct.
I tried the floppy update and got "non-system disk" error.
Tried the Non-diskette version in Windows and it seemed to work fine until I powered back on and the Bios was still at the same version.

Just to be clear, the diskette version is an executable file which needs to be run on your computer. It then creates a bootable diskette (just follow the instructions). If you simply copied the spsdkz34.exe onto a blank floppy, then that explains the "non-system disk" error message.

Either the exe will make a bootable floppy or you need a utility called loaddskf (or whatever its called).

Also, it is advisable to remove all passwords from the computer when you do this

OK guys, thanks very much. I did indeed not understand how use the floppy version of the update. Thanks for setting me straight. All is well now. Bios at 1.16. Thanks again.
