Real Time Clock Error

#1 Post by qbo » Wed May 01, 2024 12:51 pm

Hello,

What is the reason for this error when I try to boot the ThikPad T430s machine and it does not start the system? I have already checked up to where it allows and it keeps getting the same error.
0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.

Inside the laptop there's a coil cell battery wrapped in plastic that powers the real-time clock and stores the CMOS settings.
Over time that battery runs down and needs to be replaced.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

You refer to this CMOS battery the yellow one in the photo?

As I changed the damaged motherboard FRU 04X3691 that had i5-3320M for a new motherboard FRU 04X3675 with i7-3520M is giving me this error when turning on the machine because I put the CMOS battery from the old damaged motherboard to the new motherboard.

1. Does it always show the error when the laptop is powered up?

2. Did you change the date/time settings afterward?

3. Did you check the voltage of the coin cell battery?

Yes, when you press the power button always shows that error, and does not let you do anything, only allows memory test and read system information and nothing else.
2. Did you change the date/time settings afterward?
It doesn't enter the BIOS, it only shows bios information, it doesn't let you do anything.
3. Did you check the voltage of the coin cell battery?
The battery button voltage is not standard for all ThinkPad T430s CMOS battery models? Because the CMOS battery button is covered with yellow material, I did not do any voltage check.
