Hello guys.

I don't know why but I am excited ; I just got myself a used T23 Type 2647 QF1. It came with NO HDD. Does anyone have this type or have any feedback on this animal ? ... any good or did I just blow away some cash ? Plus, anyone know where I can get a set of RnR and Recovery CD Set ? It has a WIN XP PRO COA. Any info on the product would be appreciate.

Original description: PIII-M 1.13GHz (512KB), 256MB RAM, 30.0GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 24x-10x CD-ROM, Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), TV out, Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

I got same minus HDD.

Thanks guys.

T23's are great ... one of my favorite older Thinkpad models. Good luck with it. For recovery CD's, your best bet is to post a WTB Ad in our own Marketplace forum. In fact here's a set for sale - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=87309

RealBlackStuff can also provide a set, and he is up somewhat close to you. PM him and let him know your looking.

After spending some time with my T23, I have the following questions :

1) KYBD : It has this funny looking-type kybd with french accents, greek or russian accents and other strange keys. Is this typical of the T23 kybd's ?

2) RAM : Correct me if I'm wrong but the maxium allowable amount of RAM is 2 SIMMS of 512MB PC133 for a grand total of 1GB MAX ?

3) HDD : What is the maxium size of HDD allowable ? Does the HDD have to have a shield/housing ? How about that plastic "stripe/tongue" that is attached to the HDD in order to remove it ... do I need that stripe and if not how do I remain the HDD when needed ?

1.) Keyboards come in many languages. Evidently you got a non-English keyboard. You'd have to purchase an English keyboard.
2.) Correct - 2 X 512MB PC133 RAM
3.) No limit on size, but the largest laptop IDE drive is 320GB. Yes you need a caddy (tray) to insert the drive properly. The tab is optional, but it does make life easier if the cover doesn't grab the drive on the way out.

Thanks HarryC

I guess the one thing I need fast is the caddy (tray).

Can someone guide me to a photo of a caddy/tray for my T23 ?
I tried searching all over for a picture so I can see what this caddy looks like.

It is very generic, and can be used in MANY models of Thinkpads. Here is a picture. (For the record, I have nothing to do with this seller, its just an image from google)

Go to www.ebay.ca and plug in "(ibm, thinkpad) caddy (hd,hard, hdd) (t20,t21,t22,t23)" into the search box.

Thanks guys.

I finally found the photo that I was looking for. The end result is that I need 1 Cover, 1 Caddy and 5 screws.
