More RAM for T30-2366-85U Laptops
More RAM for T30-2366-85U Laptops
I own two T30-2366-85U Laptops and want to expand their RAM memory.
Presently one has 1GB and the other has 500MB RAM.
I would like to know just what is the MAXIMUM amount of ram memory that owners of T30's have actually been able to install and use.
Are there 2G, 1G, RAM memories available that will work in my type T30's? If yes, who sells them.
Are their other sources besides Crucial?
Thanks for help, Dave_S

I think you can put in 1Gb modules to get 2Gb total. It has been a while. I use Kingston memory myself and for my clients.

Instead of PC2100 chips, purchase PC2700 -- much lower price.
I am running a pair of Hynix 512MB PC2700 chips. Many folks are running two 1GB PC2700 chips. Besides Micron/Crucial, I like Samsung.
The documentation says max up to 1.0GB, because 512MB chips were the largest available at the time.Memory
•64-bit Double Data Rate (DDR) non-parity SDRAM memory
•PC2100 at 266MHz
•Two 200 pin SO-DIMM memory slots, one slot is pre-populated with 256MB, leaving one socket available
•Supports up to two 512MB SDRAM SO DIMMs
•Supports maximum memory up to 1.0GB

Thanks. It has now been many years since I left a T30 behind. ... JDH

Hi, i'm presuming that i can buy two 1GB 64bit PC2700 DDR SDRAM modules - correct?
Will any PC2700 module work?
Does anyone know if Kingston still makes these? Their web site only shows 512MB modules...
I'm looki ng forward to using the increased memory.

Any PC2100 or PC2700 1GB SODIMM will work in there, even the ValueRam.
T30 will support 2x1GB=2GB RAM, provided both RAM slots work.
Even some of the PC3200 modules work, but whatever you put in there, they will all throttle down to PC2100 speed.

Re: More RAM for T30-2366-85U Laptops
Thanks everyone.
I thought about non-Kingston modules, then read some horror stories from amazon buyers. So, i decided to try and find a kingston 1GB module.
I looked up T40, found it on their site for nearly $70 per. Then I looked for the KTM-TP0028 /1GB pn and found it on amazon. Still approx $53 per, but less, so i ordered 2. put it on my USAA cc so if there are issues chargeback will be no problem at all. We'll see how they work out.
I also ordered a 2GB for my wife's T61 - At approx $31, it was less than a SINGLE 1 GB for the T30 / T40 !!!!???!!!
The price we pay for keeping our T30s running...
I still need a new Fan2 for my inop T30 2GHZ model...

That's why if I were you, I would have sold this T30 for $120 and bought a T60 for $200. This way, I would upgrade not just the RAM but also CPU, HDD, etc., for only $80.cadillacmike68 wrote:The price we pay for keeping our T30s running...

Re: More RAM for T30-2366-85U Laptops
I know! I always cringe when shopping for PC2700 RAM. I'm just glad I got my 2GB when the stick were on sale several months (years?) ago, paid $10 for one stick and $15 for the other. Today, looks like the going rate for generic RAM is about $30 a stick. NewEgg has some name brand sticks for not too much more.
Good advice from the wizard too! I've been trying, but just find it hard to let go of those older ThinkPads.

Re: More RAM for T30-2366-85U Laptops
I'm not getting rid of my T22 or T30s. The T21, maybe but not the others. I have enough disks & accessories to keep using them forever. T40 and later take DIFFERENT Ultrabay trays. And they don't have the S-video port of the T2x & 30 either.
Got the memory and it works fine, they sent me Kingston "equivalent" memory - and so refunded me part of the price. It works they lifetime guarantee it so i'm good with it.
Where can i get a T61 for $200 anyway.. I'd get one as a backup for my wife's machine.
