T22 Hard drive swap?

#1 Post by tenpointnine » Wed Sep 14, 2011 11:36 am

I have a T60 with a 100Gb HDD (XP Pro SP3) and am awaiting the arrival (from ebay) of a 250Gb Scorpio Blue.

When the 250 Gb drive is in the T60 and running ok, will I be able to swap the 100Gb unit with the 20Gb (XP Pro SP3) drive in the T22?

Thanks

Walter

Hi Walter,

you will not be able to swap a T60 drive into a T22. For one thing, the T60 uses SATA technology and the T22 uses PATA technology. Even if the connectors were the same the video drivers and such things specific to the T60 would cause Windows to instantly crash when trying to boot up in a T22. These 2 (T60 and T22) are just too far apart :)

Thanks Daniel, I thought that might be the case.

Can you suggest a hard drive which will fit?

The current 20 Gb drive is virtually full, although I don't really know how, as there is little in the way of documents or anything on there, I have deleted everything I could think of (remember, I know nothing about computers!)

I really just want to speed it up a bit. I doubled the RAM recently to 512, but it is still quite slow. I am not expecting it to be as good as my 3Gb RAM T60, but hopefully better than it is now.

Thanks

Walter

Any 2.5" PATA/ATA/IDE/EIDE hard drive will work in your T22, as long as it is NOT SATA.
The largest 2.5" PATA drive on the market is Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB WD3200BEVE.
PATA drives are getting scarce, as well as going up in price.
