#1 Post by hoax32 » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:48 am

I cannot remember, where I downloaded it from the lenovo website - its basically the app that has a symbol on the windows 7 taskbar, and when you double click it, ips pops up messages, warranty info, model #, HDD Diagram and a System Hardware test (CPU, GPU, ....) thanks!!!!

My notes point to a dead link...
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-67910

Here is the T61 Service and Troubleshooting Guide.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 595_a5.pdf

It says to install it from the original recovery media (or using rescue and recovery).

Is there any chance that you have access to your old harddrive?

Perhaps, Lenovo placed the install program for PC Doctor under a file folder called
c:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\PCDRWIN
or something with a similar name.

Long story short, PC Doctor will not be a part of pre-load on future Lenovo offerings.

Most links to it are dead.

You may want to get an ISO file of the bootable version for future...

I can't seem to locate it either. From what i can see, System Toolbox has been more or less replaced by something called Lenovo Solution Center.

Read the last sentence of my previous post...I'm certain that someone can send you a file...

There are many other tests, but PC Doctor for DOS (in the CD form) is by far the most convenient package ever...at least in my book...

Following is a quote from another forum:

iggynelix wrote: I installed the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox in an effort for the "one-stop-shop" experience after a few sporadic freezes and unexplained shut-downs. I used it to update drivers and then also utilized some of the PC-Doctor tools like the drive check, etc. Thankfully, it resolved what must have been hard-disk erratta.

However, i recently _un-installed_ the Levnovo ThinkVantage Toolbox because:
1) even after repeated windows updates _from the toolbox_, ThinkVantage claimed i had never run a windows update.
2) ThinnkVantage Toolbox regularly interrupted me with Advertising or requests to upgrade, etc.
3) Thinkvantage Toolbox claimed i did not have a firewall running, when Windows Firewall was Active
4) The final straw...ThinkVantage took over all wireless connectivity (wi-fi Bluetooth, etc) ...and failed to deliver. Windows Wireless Networking would automatically find and connect to my regular Home/Office/2nd Office/Coffeshop wif-fi networks and ThinkVantage a)required me to change "locations" b) search for "new" networks and then c) manually connect. Even after changing settings back to "use windows networking to control wireless networks", the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox kept overriding and preventing access. These are networks i use all the time: work (WPA-TKIP), client-site (hidden guest WEP network), coffee-shop(wide open) and home(not telling).

Good bye Lenovo ThinkVantange Toolbox - i think i have an advantage thinking on my own.
PS: I was wondering where I'd seen this symbol: Image, now I remember.
When you use the Lenovo recovery CDs for W7 (mine date from 2009), that Toolbox will be installed.

Are you using PC-Doctor independently and outside of Lenovo Toolbox?

If not, what diagnostic program are you using instead?

I'll let you in on a secret: I only use an (X60s) laptop when I (sporadically) travel.
The rest of the time I use my desktop.
But I fiddle with lots of Thinkpads and nowadays install W7 (incl. this Toolbox) on anything from T60 upwards.
If I need to test anything, I still use PC-Doctor for DOS from a selfbooting CD.
You can still get it, e.g. here: http://www.downloadsource.net/16891/IBM ... PC-Doctor/

It's unfortunate that Toolbox has been pulled, IMHO. Although I had my complaints about it, in fact, spent some time reporting / testing bug fixes for Lenovo / PC Dr last year. However, it was handy to run tests on all components easily on used laptops, before selling, after buying, etc. The replacement program is pretty slim in capability, can only test drive and ram. I have many TP's, some with it installed, but do not have a copy of the latest install file anywhere on all my backups, I must have downloaded, installed and deleted! Has anyone found a location for the install file? Google has not turned up anything yet.

Well again I answer my own question. Persistence led to a Jan 2011 download of an earlier version. Surprisngly, when I installed and ran it, it ran fine, and then told me there was an update available, do I want to download and install? I of course said yes, and it did so. I now have the latest (last) version which I believe to be 6.0.5849.23 and I have the install files as well copied from a temp folder. So if anyone needs it, a little persistence with Google should yield results. Yes, in many ways an irritating piece of adware, however, a handy Win7 tool for diagnostics and system info.

I ran into the same problem, when I reinstalled all my Thinkpads with Win 7 UEFI.
I could not find my favorite Tool Box software.
After searching all over the internet, I was unable to locate it, finally I found the original installation file inside one of my older system backups. The 64bit version of PC Doctor is now almost impossible to find online, it's like Lenovo went out and removed every link in existence. Since then I've kept multiple backups of the installation file on several drives.

I agree with OP, this is the best Thinkvantage Software outside of Rescue Recover. It's a shame its no longer around.
The replacement for it called "Lenovo Solution Center" sucks cause it doesn't even work with the Thinkvantage Blue Button. As well it doesn't pull up your warranty status correctly.
Leave to Lenovo to replace a good piece of software with one that doesn't work.
