Hello folks,
Can somebody help me please. I have the 7664-17U T61, 14.1 inch widescreen. It has the 140M integrated chip.
The fan is making dreadful noise, I opened up the T61 and cleaned the fan as good as I could. Silence lasted a few days, and now the noise is back.
I looked in the HMM, but could not figure out which thermal device and fan assembly I need to get. The HMM doesn't point out the FRU for the 7664's with integrated graphics.
I inspected the entire thermal device when I took it out, but for the life of me I could not find the FRU on it. I don't want to change the fan only (limited skills) so I opt to replace the entire assembly.
Could you share with me the FRU/PN for the whole assembly please? I found a few online, looked similar but the silhouette cut-out was not exactly the same.
Here are a few photos of my faulty one, which I uploaded to my OneDrive

I found for example this one online, though not exactly the same, is it the right one? -> http://www.amazon.com/Original-Thinkpad ... B004U8G0F2
Maybe there's a better one I could upgrade to?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Michael

T61 - 7664-17U which thermal device?
Re: T61 - 7664-17U which thermal device?
About the stock configuration of your T61:
Thermal device and fan (Discrete) UBS for T series (incl. 7664-all):
Service part number (FRU)
Toshiba 42W2462
Furukawa 44C0557
Suggestion: Try place a "WTB" (Want To Buy) advertisement at the Marketplace in this forum... that's what I'd do in your place, as the first thing! If no luck there, have a look at eBay, but watch out for "compatible" (unoriginal!) devices! If everything else fails, you can obtain this fan from IBM Maintenance parts (Retail, United States), but this fan seems to carry a quite hefty price-tag!
PS: Michael, kindly update your profile with your location - that will e.g. make it easier for us to point you to parts near you! Thanks in advance for doing this.
Johan

Just an update here. I bought the replacement part from AliExpress (I'm in Singapore) new part came from China. Cost me $39 .
I did the replacement and I'm very happy. Hopefully the laptop will last me a few more years now
