Tearing my hair out with XP Pro x64 and T60 2613-HNU

#1 Post by gharris999 » Tue Nov 28, 2006 11:20 pm

This machine has the T7200 Core 2 Duo cpu. I installed the OS, but I can't seem to get anywhere with drivers. Specifically, I can't get the Intel LAN driver to work for the 82573L Ethernet controller. I downloaded the PROEM64T.exe driver package from Intel and installed it (via a usb drive, of course) on the T60. But the XP device manager always shows the Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection as not started. The device manager says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

The IBM and Lenovo sites are useless as they don't have ANY x64 drivers.

Has ANYONE had any luck running XP Pro x64 on a T60? If so, where did you find drivers?

Microsoft has a 64-bit newsgroup on their server:

msnews.microsoft.com

They would be able to answer your question.

have you tried Vista x64? I know Vista ships with more drivers (and all x64 drives MUST be signed) so perhaps that's worth a shot.

That's one of the things with XP 64, it does have a relative lack of drivers for most things when compared to XP 32. Last time I got a bunch of systems with XP 64 on them, I had to put XP 32 back on because there were quite a few things, including drivers, that I either couldn't find for the specific hardware or just wouldn't work well enough. :)

Only if you have a Core 2 Duo processor, I think.

It is as CarrerCrytharis says; you can run 64bit OSes and applications on the T60 if it has the Core 2 Duo CPU.
