Please make sure that your card is always detected. You might have the same problem what i have. Card appears on random basis. I have played with bios the whole day and it did not make any difference. Taping out pin 20 did the trick eventually. Let us know if your card stard disappearing.

I few times rebooted. All OK

Hi,

I have x301 and its BIOS is halting with 1804 when installed Broadcom WWAN module.

Seems to need BIOS patch fix... Where to download BIOS, or is there available C/C++ to be compiled in Linux to toggle some BIOS CMOS values ?

I have a Thinkpad R60 (9461-52U) with bios ver. 7CETD2WW (2.22) that I need some help with. I'm trying to upgrade my wireless card, but of course I'm encountering the 1802 error right after installing it.

The original wifi card that shipped with my system is the Intel Pro 3945ABG and I want to replace it with a Broadcom BCM94321MC. The reason I chose this card was I'm planning on installing Snow Leopard and the Intel card is totally incompatable.

If anyone could help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. Also if I was to obtain a modified bios how best would I implement the update? Should I use a Windows utility or run it from a bootable cd? What program would you suggest?

Ok so I did everything on that website, updated the bios, and got past the error and booted to winxp pro 32bit. The wireless card doesn't come up at all, I installed drivers from the Intel site as well as the ones from Lenovo for the intel driver.

The wireless card is model number 4965AG_MM1, I taped pin 20 as well.

Any ideas?

I need a modified BIOS for a ThinkPad R61 8932-CTO, BIOS rev 2.24-1.08 (latest). I need to get an Intel 6300AN WiFi card working; PCI ID is 8086:422B. Or do the patched BIOSes skip the whitelist check?

Thank you so much for helping provide these.

I have been patched BIOS for WWAN cards and now, error 1804 disappeared.
Test with my unauthorised 3G Sierra Wireless MC8775 module on X201, passed successfully - after installing drivers, i can connect to 3G network.

I've uploaded new version of patched file at the same address http://www.mafet.ru/x201/Lenovo_X201_6q ... telist.rar
Please redownload file.
Hi all,

Are there any methods available to repackage the newly patched BIOS image in a bootable ISO? I am running Linux and I used grub to boot the ISO to update my BIOS last time. As I now see it, dyleck has been so kind as to patch this BIOS with a no whitelist check and it would be great to have wireless on my lappy (I unfortunately bought a x201 with the Lenovo branded Realtek chipset which doesn't run stable on Linux).

Any guidance would be great. I still have yet to see if it is as simple as extracting the ISO and just replacing the the image with the patched one. IIRC, there are windows tools out there that can do that.

Thanks again, cheers!

Hello.

I have patched my x201 with windows utility with file, that called like $01ba000.flh.
In the ISO image placed 2 files $01B2000.fl1 and 7nuj21u.wph.
It is a same files, except that one file is a archived version of another.
Eg $01B2000.fl1 is archived version of 7nuj21u.wph, which is one file with my patched version of file.

I don't try this, but I think if you replace the original file with patched file, you have succesfully patch BIOS.
To archive my version of BIOS, you can use the utility phcomp.exe

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, I just thought of a "safer" and quicker alternative. If one could make a USB drive with FreeDOS on it, get a copy of Phoenix WinPhlash Utility for DOS, put the modified BIOS image on the same drive and reflash normally -- that /should/ work also. As I like the ISO idea better, building the ISO (for me because I've not done it before) I'd feel more paranoid in doing it that way just because I don't know of any other way to reflash, in-case of something nasty happens to the BIOS.

Is there is a rescue method in-case something is wrong with the BIOS itself? E.g., a primitive bootstrap program in some ROM before the BIOS in case the BIOS becomes corrupt? That way, one could have a last resort way of recovering and reflashing via serial port or floppy... etc. It's better than resending it to Lenovo for them to reflash it again using whatever method they use. This configuration I've seen before in embedded systems, just wondering if modern systems have this setup as well. It's one last step before breaking out the JTAG programmer :P

Also, can others confirm this moded BIOS image to work on other x201 machines where the 1802 error is gone? Thanks!

Cheers.

I have bad experience, when default lenovo update utility have broke BIOS at my friend's notebook (hangs during update).
Googling did not give me the desired results. At some forums i have read, that it is possibly recover BIOS with USB-floppy, but I haven't USB-floppy.

I gave the laptop to be repaired under warranty, but in warranty center was told that it might not guarantee lenovo case. Although after a while, they still repaired laptop. Repair was to replace the motherboard.
Perhaps there are easier ways to restore the BIOS, but I do not know them.

Success story of upgrading with my BIOS is in last comment to my article http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... F107598%2F

Well then, I dove right in, made up a FreeDOS USB stick to boot from, copied over the ROM from mafet (the one in the URL) and PHLASH16.EXE. I ran PHLASH16 to match the GUI options like so:

Code: Select all

PHLASH16.EXE <BIOS_IMG> /CS /SWAP=NO
where:
  /CS      => Verify BIOS.WPH image checksum
  /SWAP=NO => Disable Axx autodetection.
So then I get this error after it loads in the ROM file:

Code: Select all

Invalid Part Descriptor size found in the interface.
So, has anyone run into this before? What does this error message really mean? Do I need to force the flash? (I don't think that should be needed)
If this helps, I have a x201 type 3249-CTR.

Thanks for any help! Cheers.

I sent sender a PM about two BIOSes I need with no NIC whitelist: T410, T510.

I sent the PM a few months ago, but never heard back.

Does anyone have any updates?

Good day,
I've searched about as many links as I can in a day and all the ones that pertain to what I'm looking for seem to no longer exist. I need someone to message me with the Z61T bios no-whitelist upgrade link so I can put in an N card in my thinkpad. Thanks in advance.

Does Zender still post on this forum?

I've sent him a pm and haven't gotten a reply.

Can someone send me a link to the R60 bios?

I need to get a non lenovo branded Intel Wireless N card working in there.

Thanks!

Hi mafet,

would you have the time to look at the latest x201 bios (1.31) and remove the whitelist. currently i am only interested in the 1804 (WWAN) whitelist as I have ordered a sierra Wireless mc8790, which is not in the list. Your help would be much appreciated. If anyone else knows of another source for non whitelist x201 bios, i am all ears.

thanks,

Manfred

Edit:

There is a patched version available at the MDL forum now. I already have successfully updated. Still need to test once I get my fingers on my new WWAN card. Sorry if I caused you any inconvenience.
Well, after shutting down the notebook, the boot process is delayed and a two sequences of 5 short beeps before the notebook starts up ok. Everything seems to work. Just a warning for everybody else not to jump right into it before the problems have been worked out.

Hi.
I would appreciate if someone could send me a Zender bios for my X60, that would be very nice. Thinking of putting in a Ericsson F3507g card in my X60, the Sierra MC8755 i got now is useless.
