Microphone was working then stopped.

#1 Post by bass1175 » Sat May 08, 2010 5:50 pm

No clue what happened but the mic stopped working all of the sudden. I know it was working because it initially gave that loud feedback whistle and I had to mute it but now nothing. Any Ideas? Downloaded some ms hotfix and tried two different drivers. I currently have version 5.10.1.5410 installed.

Assuming that you are using Windows XP, the issue might be on how the recording controls are set. Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray, click on Options / Properties / Recording and make sure that the Microphone checkbox is enabled. Then click OK. You can also get to this same panel via Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Recording Volume button.

Make sure that the Select checkbox under the Microphone section is enabled and the volume slider is up, otherwise some other device is being used as the input.

Oh, make sure that the Playback control has the Microphone muted and/or the volume slider down; that's where you can get feedback when "nothing" is supposed to be happening.

Everything is as you state above, I noticed though when I go thru yahoos call setup and tap on the mic the bar registers sound. It only registers sound when the "boost" check box is checked. It also only registers sound when tapping but not when speaking. If I uncheck the boost chekc box then it registers nothing not even the tapping.

Windows sound recorder doesn't detect sound at all, with boost or no boost.

This is with driver 5.10.1.4326

Thanks for the support.

ok somehow I got the windows recorder to register some finger tapping, and although I tap hard the playback is very weak to the point where regular speech does not register.

Visited the t61 audio drivers page and was very surprised of the last summary change
it states
"Version 5.10.1.5520 (Fix) No sound recorded on the internal microphone"

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67816

was thinking maybe I got a t61 card somehow and that this would solve the problem, downloaded the t61 driver and everything went well but still no recording.
I still find it very interesting that this problem was on the t61s and was serious enough for a driver update.
