IDE SSD on ThinkPad X32 problem

#1 Post by tobz » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:25 pm

I read through the posts about having SSD issues, but they all seem to be related to CF SSD, or IDE to CF adapter. I have a Transcend TS64GSSD25-M in my ThinkPad X32. I can boot ubuntu 11.10 from USB and install it to the 64GB drive. When I reboot, my computer says no operating system found.

If I have the jumper set to Master or Slave, I get the 0200 Fixed Disk error. With the jumper not connected (cable select), it doesn't show up in my BIOS when I go to the "Boot" section.

What is the trick to getting these to work? I am sure that some people have made them work, and I'd love to hear the work-around.

Thanks!
T.J.

You need to set the drive to Master, anything else will not work.

Using e.g. a USB enclosure or Apricorn adapter, connect it to another laptop, then Initialize it in diskmgmt.msc, followed by Partition/Format.
You may have to zero the drive first (5% is enough) using DBAN (free on the web).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
