msata adapter and ssd on x41t fails on partition create

#1 Post by elgreco » Mon Jan 19, 2015 10:12 am

hi!

so i have the same issues as some guys in the forum.

I have a X41T and just bought the msata Adapter from ebay (the one with 3.3v). since it was from china i was waiting for the shipment almost 1.5 months!!!!

anyway i took out my old disk and inserted the new adapter with a brand new toshiba 128mb hdd. My ubuntu installation recognize the disk, but it does not let me create any partitions. it fails.

does anyone here have any hint to share with me..so i can make the best laptop of all the time to work with a msata hdd!?

thanks!!!!

The X41/X41T HD-connector already supplies 3.3V.
For mSATA you need an adapter such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251781485169
If your adapter is different and you put in a card with a 5V->3.3V adapter, you probably end up with ~2V at the mSATA connector.
Have you tried Gparted?

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I have the exact adapter and from the same seller.
Yes I tried gparted...still the same result. Can't format the partition. The msata HDD had before win 8.1 Sony partition.

You need to wipe the mSATA first, using a program like DBAN on a USB stick: http://www.dban.org/download

hi!

i did zerro the disk with DBAN, and then run again ubuntu 14.04 install .
When the setup proceeds to format " Creating ext4 system for /partition #1 if SCSI (0,0,0) (sda) " if tails with the erro

The ext4 file ststem creation partiton #1 of scsi (0,0,0,) (sda) failed.

really strange. If there would be any isse with the HDD i would not be able even to zerro it, right?

now im lost...how to proceed?!!!

(edit)
I forgot to mention, that at first when the partition is trying to be made, the HDD led blinks, but after a while it stops.
after that i can see the hdd if i go Back in the install, but the system does not recognize the /dev/sda drive anytmore.
Error input/output error during read on /dev/sda.

thanks

Have you tried that drive in another laptop?
You could have a faulty SSD.
Perhaps return it for another one?

For Ubuntu read this: http://www.leaseweblabs.com/2013/07/5-c ... ntu-linux/
