Advice on X41 Tablet motherboard replacement

#1 Post by skybird » Fri Jul 29, 2011 5:44 pm

Hi there,

Actually this is my first time visiting the forum and knowing of its existance.

I used to have X41 Tablet and it was wonderful, however several months ago it went dead, well, it does not power up anymore from the charger or the battery.

I am now thinking of changing the motherboard with a used one from those that are beign sold on ebay, however I am thinking also of getting the 1.6gz LV model, the faulty one currently in the tablet is 1.5gz, so I wonder if the 1.6gz will fit there without any problems and all other components, screen, digitizer, internal cards, memory, etc will be connected and working without problems.

I hope I will get my little X41t back to life ASAP :)
your advice is much appreciated.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Based upon what I see in the X41T Hardware Maintenance Manual, there's only one base (lower case) that's specified, ignoring the differences in the product labels from systems meant for China, Taiwan, Korea and Worldwide. This should mean that whatever motherboard was made for the X41T, it will fit into the base without any problems. Same goes for the LCD, digitizer, etc.; there's nothing to indicate that there are different parts that must be matched to a particular motherboard. You can check your seven character MODEL TYPE (186x-xxx) with the manual and see exactly what other models used the same parts.

Note that even though I own an X41T, I have not opened it up and played around with its insides. So I may be wrong :) . Hang around for a little while and I'm sure somebody will be by to back up my analysis or shoot me down  .

I was thinking it might be expedient to just buy a whole system, maybe with a broken screen or something, as the price might not be that much higher than a mainboard and you'd get all the other bits. Then I saw this:

Wow...seller seems to have good feedback, and if all that's missing is the HD + pen, you could just swap those over from your old machine.

I know it doesn't answer your question, but it's another possible solution to your problem.

I believe you are talking about this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/130551186111 And that might be a good consideration as long as you can get the seller to agree to an international shipment at a reasonable added cost.

Whoops, that's right. And I didn't realize the OP was in the UK.

Carry on...
