Hi everyone,

I have an x40 with two transcend CFs connected
via an addonics adaptee (CF/IDE):
transcend 1x 8GB - 300x (master)
transcend 1x 32GB - 133x (slave)
running under windows XP sp3.

Does anyone knows a way to fix this error?
It seems related to the geometry of the disk
(32GB in this case)
I read in the sticky post on ssd that windows install fix this error? is it correct? How come?

I have a last issue that I would like to share. I have randomly and depending on the application or/and action realized with the laptop some freezes. For instance, when I am launching a search sometimes it works instantly others it freezes for a while and rarely I have to shutdown the search function... The same goes for firefox, some times it opens instantly others it freezes for #20sec. Does anyone knows the problem source? Is there any solution?

Thank you for your time and help.

Regards

Error 0200 can be due to several reasons and one can be the adapter is inserted upside down.

As for freeze, try to clean the free space on the CF. This can be due to long erase time from writing into non-one (11111...) free space. Read the SSD thread in the stickies. I posted instruction on cleaning "dirty" free space.

Hi sjthinkpader and forumers,

Concerning your technique i tried it before posting and it improves slightly the performance and reduce this kind of freezes.
Concerning the ERROR 0200, even if i have to resume the error at each "cold boot" by pressing F1 and ESC, the disk works greatly after the startup (no problem at reboot or during work).

The thing is that I read several post (mainly jankoo) trying several techniques but I would like to have some feedbacks before reformating or entering some advance partition editing thing.

So if some of you had experience on CF or other media and had the ERROR 0200 solved (same type: can bypass it) please feel free to share it.

thanks a lot.

If you pull out the slave card, does the boot error still persists?

Hi sjthinkpader,

Good question and I forgot to detail all the troubleshooting tests that I have done before posting on the board.
Indeed, I removed the slave flashcard (32GB Transcend 133x) and the computer booted without any trouble.
In fact, the problem is located on this card and I suppose that if I put another 8GB 300x I would not face this problem.

Janko detailed several tests (cf. sticky topic on SSD) that he has done with different CF cards and theses tests are really interesting and the outcomes are heterogeneous. For some reasons, this compact flash has something (the geometry i guess) that the boot disk test does not see has normal.

Another forumer (sorry I do not remember the name lost amongst the 27pages) talked about reinstalling the OS (XP in this case) fixe this issue during formating. (I don't know if it works and didn't find any forumers that did it)

I have some clues but nothing strong enough to take the leap and reinstall a full customize and fully operational system.
It is a pain in the xxx moreover when you do not know if it will works.

I keep hoping someone patient enough has struggled against this problem, solved it and pass by my topic.

Thanks for your help and time.

Since it is a slave card, MBR would not be the problem. I assume you tried NTFS, FAT32 on this card already?

Hi thinkpaders,

Just to let you know that I finally found a solution to this issue.
I swaped my master and slave card (8GB/300x <-> 32GB/133x).
and guess what? No more ERROR 0200!
The only detail is that your "secondary" card will contain the MBR.

Works like a charm,

Cheers.
